Title: Gun Book Recommendations?
Post by: Herknav on November 21, 2010, 06:02:45 AM
I'm putting together a li'l Xmas wish list for the Frau. Since Michael is still working on his re-write/update of "Survival Guns", I need some suggestions. Here's a glimpse into what I have (from memory).

Ayoob--Stressfire, Gunproofing your Children
Bane--Trailsafe
Brister--Shotgunning, The Art & Science
Cooper--Principles of Personal Defense, The Art of the Rifle
Jordan
Keith--Sixguns
McGivern
Nonte--The Art of Pistolsmithing
Stanford--Surgical Speed Shooting
Sweeney--Pistolsmithing book, Rifle Book
Tappan--Survival Guns

Am I missing your favorite book? Suggestions welcome.

Cheers,
Herk

Thank you, OMG, so many and too little time.

Bill Jordan, No second place winner.

John Shaw/ Michael bane, you can't miss.

Jeff Cooper, Ride, shoot straight and speak the truth, Shotluck, Fireworks etc....

The complete book of shooting by Outdoor life, O'Connor, Dunlap, Kerr and Cooper.

Successful shooting, Pullum & Hanenkrat, good stuff.Lones Wigger on the cover.

The complete guide yo AR15 accuracy, Derek Martin and Barrett Tillman, guys this is the book, if you want to build and accurate AR or do a trigger job, I have 4 more books on AR's this is the best hands down. Derek is a national competitor, and has the company, Accuracy Speaks, which makes very fine products, but he shows you how to do it yourself, in his book.

By the way Andy Stanford is a personal friend, Glad you are reading his book, Take a class if you can, you won't be sorry. He works for Surefire now,  but still does training.

Correct.  I have also heard that you want to find an original rather than a later printing.  Barnes and Nobles carries it in its latest version, but I have held out hoping to find an older.  I don't know what has been changed, but I will trust the gun gods  ;)

Speaking of "gun gods",...KD Kirklands, America's Premiere Gunmakers Set. or Ayoob's, The Truth About Self Protection,

Throw in a Sasser book, like the 100th Kill, and the previous posts, and that's a great list.

Are you looking for just how tos, or are you interested in histories, biographies or just some good vintage hunting/war type stories as well? I'm thinking things like the development of say Remington or Winchester, bios on folks like JMB, the history of various weapons like the Garand or 1911, or tales of the early days of hunting  in Africa, or exploration of the West type stuff.

I guess I tend to gravitate more toward "how-to's".  However, I wouldn't turn down any of the others you mentioned. :)
