And this just in on a slow day:
St. Louis tops list of most dangerous US cities
A national study finds St. Louis overtook Camden, N.J., as the nation's most dangerous city in 2009.
The study released Sunday by CQ Press found St. Louis had 2,070.1 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, compared with a national average of 429.4. That helped St. Louis beat out Camden, which topped last year's list and was the most dangerous city for 2003 and 2004.
Detroit, Flint, Mich., and Oakland, Calif., rounded out the top five.
For the second straight year, the safest city with more than 75,000 residents was Colonie, N.Y.
The annual rankings are based on population figures and crime data compiled by the FBI. Some criminologists question the findings, saying the methodology is unfair.

if you remove the richer parts of oakland, I'd bet its number would go way. not to mention all the crimes that are not reported.
oakland is joke. I know I've said this before, but if I drove to oakland with cash, I have little doubt I could not come back with any gun I wanted.

Guess where the NRA Convention will be held in 2012? St. Louis..... :-\
+1 on Oakland, our company completed a Coast Guard Project in the Oakland/SF area, and the techs all said the same thing. Oakland is a dump.

I go to St. louis a couple time a year for week-end get aways. Always stay down town(between baseball and football stadiums), walk almost everywhere we go. We have never had a problem. Your normal homeless wandering around but no trouble or anything. But there are places not far from down town I wouldn't drive through in the day light.
-
Are we sure they're not talking about East St. Louis?
-
I used to walk to work in Oakland, I never had a bit of trouble, but it was day time, and I stated away from the center of the city.

I won't even get off the interstate in East St. Louis!!!!
-
I've never visited St. Louis, so I can't comment as to its safety. The only city I've ever been nervous in, however, was Philadelphia. The sad part was, I was in an extremely affluent section of town. I was also allowed the wonderful experience that is Camden on a trip from Philly to Atlantic City. Thanks to EXTREMELY disorganized road work and little to no signage indicating detours, I got to "experience" a great deal of that local. That being said, I have a hard time believing St. Louis is more dangerous than Camden.

No they don't mean East St. Louis. The leaders in the city are crabbing that if this outfit included St. Louis County the figures would be skewed to better results. I've worked in St. Louis and I can assure you that there are parts of it I wouldn't enter at ant time without being armed. Downtown (where the NRA meetings will be) is fine but go five or six blocks north or a mile west or two miles south and all bets are off. Some of the urban areas are at best little more than war zones.
This should get a few remarks but as the saying goes ..... been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

St. Petersburg, Florida came in at 31. Wouldn't have made the list at all except Haz and Crusader call it home. LOL
Haz Jr will be 18 next year, so we should make it to the top-10! ;)

He should be off to school. If he goes out of state (and takes his bayonet with him) y'all should drop to 32. ;D

PS Given the topical post, let me suggest somewhere other than the otherwise excellent Washington University :-\

Ledyard, CT is a vicious place near me! Busloads of elderly slot machine monsters getting trucked in daily!
I'm a-scared to go near Foxwoods!

I peed on the Great Arch in St. Louis back in '64....

Hooray for St. Louis!!! Finally Camden got knocked off as #1! We've got enough going against us here in NJ without having the #1 s***hole in the nation.

There and Hammond, I drove through there about 2AM one night. Only place I've ever been where I REALLY REALLY wanted a gun.

Weird thing about Indiana. I could have had a CCW for the asking and $25. I just never felt the need in the tiny town I lived in. First trip to Indy? I wish I'd filled out the paperwork. :P

If only he would do something to ease up the CCW.
-
Get on them Jay ! He can't sign a bill until some one gets it to him.
-
Our local senator is putting up a CCW bill but we haven't heard where it's at right now. North Jersey has a million times the population and that's where all the asshats like Menendez and Lautenberg are from. It will never pass. We would stand a better chance if someone challenged their CCW denial in court, but I don't have the money to do that.
