For those that don't know, it stands for The End Of The World As We Know It.
Are we destined to repeat the Korean "Police Action" again? It seems so, according to the news sources.
Are we not doing the same exact thing we did back in the 50's? Pretty close, to me!
Are you scared? (I am, but I'm too old to be drafted! LOL!)
Many of you may not be old enough to recall what happened, but I lost family in that travesty!

It's still too early to try and make anything out of it. This guy's entire country is starving, and he does this kind of saber rattling because he wants something from the free world he can't get at the moment, because of U.N. sanctions that are currently in place on that stink hole. We'll most likely give in to him for whatever he wants if he promises to behave. Just like when he grabbed those 2 girls. He wanted Clinton to come and kiss a little a$$ to get them back. A big deal was made of it, and all was well. Hussein will do nothing but flap his pie hole. We got a carrier battle group steaming over there, but that is just more saber rattling. At least for now.
The other possibility is this guys about to lose power, and it's not known how well his dim witted son is being received by the military over there. Their whole regime just might fall apart. That could be good or bad, there is just no way of knowing at this point. It is an entirely closed society of crackpots over there. Bill T.

The recent events in Korea are not aimed at us, or even the S Koreans.
This is a propaganda move aimed at the minds of the N Korean people.
They are not told that NK started the shooting, they only hear about SK shells hitting on their side of the border.
Starving people are being convinced of the continuing need to sacrafice in the face of continuing aggression from the out side world.
For starters, they don't have enough fuel to run their tanks, all their oil is from either Venezuala, or donated by the South.
Second, China will not assist them this time, They do not want the refugee problem they are currently faced with to become even worse, nor do they want the fall out that prevailing winds will dump on them should such a conflict go nuke.
Third, if China is actively opposed the Russians can't help them either as it would require an opposed air lift of supplies.

And WHERE have we seen this before?
A Puss for a POTUS, and Iran just sits back and waits. Brings back memories of Carter, eh?
We may not jump into the Korean thing yet, but Obummer will CAVE when it comes to the Mid-East!
-
Doesn't really matter what Jimmy Obummer does, (actually I think he would freak out and nuke them )
Because the European Union and Russia would freak out and nuke them.
It's true that I spend a lot of time writing of the "new cold war" or the fact that the old one never ended, one thing that the US and Russia firmly agree on is the need to contain radical Islam. That is the whole reason behind both Chechen wars.
Where we run into conflict is in who we think are Terrorists. The Russians have always maintained that the Chechens were Al Qaida connected terrorists which the US, wrongly as history has shown, Claimed they were "Freedom Fighters", resisting Russian expansion. In retaliation they have given aid to Hamas, (as has Obummer ) and Iran, that is simply to create problems for us. Should Iran ever initiate large scale military action in the region, our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan would be at risk, but the only ones who could be seriously harmed would be Russia and Europe.
In fact, such a conflict would present several diplomatic advantages to the US if it occurred during the term of an American, rather than this "citizen of the world", and with the right Congress even he could be forced to take advantage of it.
Among the things I'm Thankful for this season is great topics for debate ;D

The North does this all the time. we don't usually hear about it unless there's some political reason for us to give a damn. what worries me is that I will be flying over there soon to go to work (the South) and must fly within range of the wacky North. I would guess too that maybe Kim and Junior are trying to build credibility for the countries new 'General' or junior so that we take him seriously when he does the stupid stuff daddy did. either way I don't like the idea of being in the middle of it and that is what will happen if we go back to war.

There will be no war, As Deepwater mentioned, Gen. Junior has to show the NK military he has nads.

or even show the world he has nads. I think his military won't question him, but the rest of the world would. (question Jr. and you go to work camp for the rest of your life... that'll keep 'em in line). ;D

I'm only commenting because I think this is an especially interesting topic.
But I think it is aimed more at the NK people and military.
What Deepwater said about "question Jr. and you go to work camp for the rest of your life."
is only true as long as Daddy is still in complete control. If He dies or some how loses the support of either the military or Security service before Jr establishes his own firm grip on power then Jr. is screwed, just like the situation in the Soviet Union after Stalin's death, or when Khrushchev was removed. Jr. needs to keep the other factions scared of him by maintaining tight rein on the people with the guns.
If some General thought he could bring more guns to bear than the current regime, by eroding faith in Jr's ability to control the other factions Jr would get a very nice funeral .

we can only hope.. my guess is that if they did take over, jr. may not even get a funeral, maybe just a ditch? mass grave to put him in with all his 'people'?

The way the NK people have been brain washed over the last 65 years they would, at least in the short term, make it look like a great National tragedy, in order to maintain the peace among the people.
Much the same way that Khrushchev 20th Party Congress speech denouncing Stalin and the "Cult of personality" was kept secret from the Soviet population for several years. Other wise it would lead to questions about the legitimacy of the new Regime.
The new Bosses would not really care, just so long as he was dead and no longer able to interfere in their own power struggles.
Just like in the old Soviet Union, there would be a rash of "Plane crashes" and "Heart attacks".

Let em come, ;D

I say we need a very covert operation, say with a few American Sniper Teams,,.....and make this kinda just go away,.....
Get a little more KGB-ish, in our tactics, and just take these wannabe's out.
Save a lot of time and trouble.

I think it would be a waste of ammo in NK, the inefficiencies of socialist economics are taking care of them, if they do not all starve to death they will wind up trading their Nuke program for a bucket of extra crispy and a couple of Big Mac's. If you look back through old news reports that has always been their price when negotiating to shut down the program, Food and fuel.
It seems like the perfect solution for Iran and Hugo Chavez though and would have been the most practical and cost effective way to deal with Saddam.

Big +1.
This is imperative. We need to start killing more of these people. If we could simply drop Chavez, Ahmadinejad, and that little Poodle eater, the world would be a better, and SAFER place! Bill T.

By the way and FWIW, in an effort to economize on absolutely everything whether or not it makes any sense, the White House has announced today that the term POTUS, while an easily recognizeable abbreviation for President Of The United States has been reworked to eliminate needless and useless letters contained therein. From now on, the term POS will be an acceptable abbreviation for the current resident.
Of course, the White House version of this announcement took eight pages and was fax'd to every news organization in the free and not-so-free world at a cost to the American taxpayer of $4.3 billion.
I just figured I'd pass it along for free.
With love from,
