A post on another forum got me to thinking about this. What is the gun trade you most regret. I can tell you mine real fast, without even thinking about it. (Actually, I hate to think about it!) Anyway, I bought a Colt Anaconda .44 Mag for the then princely sum of $400. Had it maybe a year. One of the local gun shops had a Browning A bolt Medallion .223, that for reasons I can not explain, I just had to have. I traded my Anaconda even for that gun. The Browning turned out to be the most god awful shooting gun I ever owned! On a pie plate at 100 yards it would do good to keep 6 inch groups. Needless to say, I didn't keep that one long. But, I have wanted that Anaconda back ever since. Maybe 3 months after I traded, Colt stopped making all double action revolvers, and of course the price of one went through the roof! Now that same gun would cost me well over a thousand bucks to replace. OK, I told on myself. What about you guys? What trade do you most regret making?

Sell gun = bad

I never traded and I only sold one. I don't regret it.

No regrets here....I've only ever traded three guns in 20+ years and all were trade-ups to better guns.
Traded in a Taurus Model 66 .357 (first brand new gun I bought when I turned 21) for a NIB Colt 1991A1 .45 ACP at a gun shop. I paid $200 for the Taurus NIB and the Colt was $425. The store owner gave me $250 credit on the Taurus because he wanted it for himself (after shooting it and feeling the trigger job I did for PPC matches) ......so I wrote a check for $175 and made the deal.
Traded a Taurus Model 85 .38 spl for a Ruger Super Blackhawk....this was an even trade, initiated by the other party and everyone went away happy.....I had only paid $125 for the Taurus.
The third was a Savage 110 in 30-06 for a Browning A-Bolt Stalker back in the late 80's. The Savage was a good gun, but I wanted the composite stock and Browning was the way to go back then (since they started the production/composite craze). I wish I still had the Savage, but I don't regret the trade because the Browning is a great gun....still shoots well.

Right there with you gunman. I traded a Colt python on a Glock 17 during the first AWB scare. It was a pretty even money swap at the time, an NIB Glock vs a used cops python with holster wear, but then colt stoped making them and Glocks weren't banned (thank you to the asshole who shot up that Lubys in Killeen >:(). As it is, I traded the best handgun I've ever touched, much less owned, in on a "good enough for government wort" semi auto. I lose. :'(

Parker Wyoming Arms 1911 in 10 mm that I traded for an American Western Arms with spur hammer in .357 mag.
Don't regret getting the AWA, but I wish I still had the Parker. It was my first 1911. Only problem was that it took Colt Delta magazines, and I couldn't find them anywhere at the time.
I currently have a Barretta 9000 for sale, had it sold but guy that wants it ended up with two rush weddings in the same year (both new sons-in-law shipping out to the sandbox suddenly). Plan to buy a 92 with the cash. Don't think I'll regret that, because I have my xd and m&p that fit better already.

I ain't tellin'...!

PS: Yes, it's that bad!!!!!!!

Had a Marlin 336RC in .30-30 that I had gotten at a ranch auction. Looked NIB, slight wear around the loading gate. Checked the s/n, looking NIB but mfg'd in 1952!
Had it scoped, and it became my ranch rifle over the Ruger Mini-14 I just had to have. Sold the Marlin when I sold my ranch, and as I handed the buyer the rifle, I was already regretting it.
Very bright silver lining - I regretted it so damn much I started prowling pawn shops until I found another. More beat up, some dipstick carved initials and a number into the left side of the frame ( >:( >:( >:( ??? ::) ). Paid about $150 for it due to condition and probably cuz it was a lever action in an AR world. Got it home, checked s/n and it was made in 1948 - original model year for the Marlin 336RC!
Turned out better than OK, but that regret was awful until I replaced it.
-
I traded a 1 of 1k Colt Custom Shop Government Model .45 (#027) for a chinese ak variant in .223. :-[
Don't ask why, but it seemed to be a good idea at the time. 1993ish.
-
I sold a S&W Model 29 .44 Magnum for the money to buy my wife's engagement ring. (A man can't love a woman more than that)
And no, I don't regret it. ;D
-
I have sold/traded several, but the ONLY 1 I regret was an Olympic Arms M4 carbine (my first AR) that I traded for a Universal M1 carbine. I had a second AR that I had built, and really wanted a M1 carbine. I just committed the number 1 mistake in life ....... allowed emotions to override intelligence and traded w/o enough research. My loss, his gain! :o

I've almost always traded up and don't regret any of the guns. It might have been nice to have my first gun, a 3-screw Blackhawk back, but no real regret.
What I miss most is the 1.1x Hutson Handgunner scope that was on top of that Blackhawk. I was on the cusp of putting scopes on handguns and really wish I had kept that scope. Now a collectors item. The one shipped to Jeff Cooper in 1970 for evaluation is for sale for $300.
These were early years of handgun specific scopes.
-
There are 2 I regret, One was a Detonics Combat Master that I sold because I was laid off and really needed the money. The other was a Colt Detective Special That was one of the 1st 300 made post 1971 with the shrouded heavy barrel and shorted grip frame.
-
My one and onyl gun regret.
I traded away my Springfied scout rifle in .22lr/410 for...... a H&R Buffalo Plains revolver. :-X
I keep telling myself that I was new to guns and had no clue at the time to ease the pain.
-
My only regret is that I could keep them all Where would I put them all. I never have any regrets because I have traded for something that I really want to call mine. And I will pay a little bit more to take it home and lock her up in my safe

Now THAT is captivated by love!!
The biggest regret I have over gun trades is getting rid of my first gun, a Remington Speedmaster .22, given to me by Dad, for a POS pump shotgun.
Don't ask me why I needed a shotgun when I didn't even have a drivers lic or a car to get to where I could hunt birds. :P
Man, I was one dumb kid at the time.

Mauser 1895 Chilean 7X57 100% finish, one ding in the stock sold it for $75 (I only paid $100, but still... )
Browning Buck Mark, traded for rent last fall.
-
The first 2 guns I ever received. A Remington Model 514 single shot .22, and a Winchester Model 37 single shot shotgun in .410. I sold them when I got into high school. I can't even remember what for. Dumb. I wish I had them today. I learned my lesson and never sold a gun since, or ever will. Bill T.

I regret selling an old model Ruger Blackhawk in .357 to a friend I thought needed it. The only other regrets are the guns I didn't buy when they were common and in my price range like Pythons and SAAs.
-
No regrets so far, of course I've only owned/traded a small number of guns. Right now I'm thinking of trading my M1 Carbine toward an AR, which (if I do) would be my first regret I'm sure.
Cameras - there are many I wish I still owned: Minolta CLE w/2 lenses, Contax G1, Konica Hexar, Nikon F2SB, Olympus OM1, Olympus XA...

I wouldn't regret it, unless you have the cash to buy the AR outright. The M1 is a fun little gun and easy to shoot, but so is the AR, and its a lot more lethal. Thats not PC, but when were we ever PC? ;D. The guns were designed for the same thing. An M-forgery is just better at the job. There are times I mis my M1, but then I realize I probably wouldn't shoot it much if I still owned it. I'd rather spend the time and dollars feeding the AR. Thats just my .02 though. If you can have both, its better. If not, make the trade and don't think twice about it.

That's my dilemma, I like shooting it and finally got it to be 100% reliable. I love the look but hate the price of and extremely limited selection of ammunition. I'm in a similar quandary with my 92FS. It's been nothing but dependable and more accurate than I'll ever be, but I'm not completely in love with it. I can't justify the expense of an outright purchase of anything new right now.
I've got 4 options running through my head: 1. Trade the 92 and/or the M1 in to help pay for an AR. 2. Trade the M1 in toward a Beretta CX4 Storm and keep the 92 (same ammo and magazines). 3. Trade the 92 and/or the Carbine in toward a .357 lever rifle (same ammo as my wheel guns). 4. Wait until I can build up my Priority Club points again (free gun), but that could take quite a while. If I use the 92 as a trade, that leaves me without a semi-auto pistol, but I can save up my points and get a Glock (yes I said Glock) or XDM next year.
Ah Hell, since I most likely won't get to the range until Spring, I should just wait. Thanks for your time. :)

If you decide to start doing some trading for an AR shoot me an email or IM, I'm always pretty AR heavy. As far as the trade you regret, I have one. I don't regret making the trade since it was basically a life and death situation that I won't go into details over but it had to be done. I do however regret that I'll probably never be able (or at least justify) replace my Bren-Ten Special Forces Model. I think the closest I'll get is getting one of the new ones VLTOR is making if or when they ever bring them to market. It won't be the original so the value is nowhere near the same but at least the "new, improved" model has ambi or reversible safety and uses EAA Witness mags. If I still had the original the mags alone are running about 3 bills each now.

It seemed like a good idea at the time......, but the gun I miss the most is a High Standard Sentinal Mk. IV, 9 shot 22 magnum revolver. I used it in a trade for a larger caliber pistol, but in hind-sight it wasn't such a good trade. If I could find one in a local gun store or pawn shop, I'd buy it. A terrific little hide-out gun.

There is not one single time that I sold or traded a gun that I do not regret.

You've met her. You KNOW I traded up from that Model 29. ;D

I traded a S&W Model 65 that I wish I had back. That's why I don't trade anymore. Just need more safe space ;)

Cookie's post reminded me of one other gun I traded off and now wish I hadn't a S&W model 25-7 .45 cal model of 1989 .45 Colt
