Guys
I have a 1989 Chevy Suburban 2wd that need the transmission & motor rebuilt . Transmission rebuilt $1200, engine rebuild kit $350(I can do this myself) heads rebuilt $250, tires $400. Total $2200
Or I have been seeing 94-95 4wd Suburbans between $1500 & $2500
Any thoughts or suggestions

well for the same money, you can have a 89 burb that has a rebuilt motor and tranny or a 94-95 burb that has ????? for the same money.
If you have the time and the abilty to put a motor and tranny in it, it would be wroth while to do so, if not take a chance on a new truck.

Don't forget: How long before you have to replace a lot of plastic trim, door skins, dash, rubber seals, gaskets, suspension parts, etc.
That stuff can be a PITA and isn't cheap.
You will have a solid drivetrain if the rest of the 'Burb is clean and low miles. Most aren't.

Me? I would rebuild it. I have a '91, and these are the last years before they started putting all the electronic junk on them. If the rest of the truck is in good shape, why not? My current one is at 230k, and I still have not touched the motor or transmission. Yes, I know that it will need it here in the next few years, and yes I am planning on doing the work to it. Also, getting a newer one you don't know what may be wrong with it and need fixing just after you drive it away. At least with the one you have, you do know where it is.
The roads up here are harsh, and the older vehicles hold up better in the long term.

I would rebuild. You know what you have, but you don't know what you are buying. And, all the parts listed as needing replacing in the coming days apply to any vehicle.
Bottom line - In 99% of all cases, the cheapest vehicle is the one you are already driving!

Rebuild it, then run it until the wheels fall off. It'll save you money that you can spend on guns and ammo until TEOTWAWKI--which should happen within a week after Odamna is reelected by themasses.
Sheesh.
