Matt Quigley: You'll have to excuse me, I'm new here, so I ain't rightly certain: is everyone in this country as butt-ugly as you three?
-
Eula Goodnight: "Marshal, if you're not careful, Hawk's men might hear you."
Rooster Cogburn: "And if they ain't careful, they'll find me!"

Rather you think you can or you think you can't, you're right.

"Here's to you and here's to me and if by chance we disagree, f..k You and here's to me!"

"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people’s liberty teeth and keystone under independence. From the hour the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to ensure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable. The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference—they deserve a place of honor with all that's good."
George Washington, Jan. 7, 1790, speech to Congress

You so much as scowl at my niece, or any other kid in this school, and I hear about it, and I'm coming looking for you! Take this quarter, go downtown, and have a rat gnaw that thing off your face. Good day to you, madam. - Buck Russell

There is a quote attributed to the Marines that I cannot quite remember. Maybe someone here can help. The quote has to do with situational awareness and it is along the line of "Smile, but have a plan to kill everyone in the room." I don't think that is exactly right. Does anyone remember this quote?

They couldn't hit an elephant at this dist--
-- Last words of Union commander General John Sedgwick, spoken as he was watching enemy troops at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House.

Be polite. Be professional. But have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

JW :" Fill your hand you son-of -a -b!tch".
True Grit.

Another from the Duke catalog, from Stagecoach
Ed (editor): McCoy! Billy, kill that story about the Republican Convention in Chicago and take this down: "The Ringo Kid was killed on Main Street in Lordsburg tonight. And among the additional dead were..." Leave that blank for a spell.
McCoy, typesetter: I didn't hear any shootin', Ed.
Ed (editor): You will, Billy, you will.

Damn Jumbo and BillT beat me to the ones I was originally thinking of. Sooo...
"Talk low, talk slow, and don't say too much." Attributed to John Wayne
"Well, son, since you haven't learned to respect your elders, it's time you learned to respect your betters." John Wayne/Big Jake
I got the chance to use that on one of the boys when he came back from boot camp just a little bit too full of himself. As the commercial says- "Priceless"

Priceless... Is that another way of saying you have zero deductible on your HMO? I don't know about you, but that's the last damn thing I'd say to a 19 year old Marine straight out of Paris Island, blood relative or no. ;D

And in the spirit of the season....................... (If this offends anyone, oh well)
Here is a man who was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another village. He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty. Then for three years He was an itinerant preacher.
He never owned a home. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put His foot inside a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place He was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself...
While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against him. His friends ran away. One of them denied Him. He was turned over to His enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed upon a cross between two thieves. While He was dying His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth – His coat. When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.
Twenty long centuries have come and gone, and today He is a centerpiece of the human race and leader of the column of progress.
I am far within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched, all the navies that were ever built; all the parliaments that ever sat and all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as has that one solitary life.

Y'all do remember the adage about "age & treachery vs. youth” don’t ya? He came home thinking he was the baddest thing on 2 legs and started to smart off to the “old man”. He forgot that the old man had 5 inches and 70 pounds on him along with 30 years of dealing with various aggressive/combative smartasses on the job. He found out that old don’t mean slow.
Tom- Thanks for the wishes. #1 son has finished his active tour and is IRR, going to school. #2 son just reenlisted , he’s in the ‘stan on his second deployment over there, third overall.
