Still damn funny. I think between "school me now", and "I can shoot 1/4 inch groups all day, if I do my part", and the 1000yd shots are great.
;)

long deep sigh*
Not only does this sum up most interenet banter but it has penetrated the gun shops as well.
Honestly I think the problem is that when you are new you do not have any preferences and so you rely on the opinion of those you perceive to be more experienced than yourself. Problem with that is most people on the interwebs only talk a good game.

A '1000 yard' rifle. Heck IF yer good (not me!) any rifle (pretty much) CAN do it, I know my Savage 30-06 could (just not with me behind it ;) ). Heck look at those guys using black powder rifles for it. That IS cool! (and VERY hard to do)
-
1000 yard shot would be pretty cool accomplishment, and if I ever hit the lottery I would probably buy a purpose built rifle and go some where like Gunsite to learn how to do it.
But considering the terrain where I live I'd be lucky to get half that range for serious shooting.

Lake Winnipesaukee would do!
;D
If you can hit a moving jet-ski...
-
Tim, even there I would have to be careful to pick my spot, most a lot of places there are islands well inside 1000 yards.
Have to go to airports and shoot down the runways ;D

Look back at the OP, I added another video.
And here's another one:

Will grape jelly really make the metallic taste go away ? ;D

But 230gr. Wal-Mart ammo isn't that bad,... ::)
;D
-
So are any of you a "Three Star General or Call of Duty tactical wizard"? ;D ;D
-
It is funny. I mean, making the thousand yard shot is a whole lot easier than finding the the thousand yard range to practice it. ;D Exceptions made for our friends out west, but in South Fl., unless you go off shore and shoot at floating targets, good luck. :P

Not South FL but I have a choice of two. One in Myakka and one in Hernando (both withing an hour from me here in St Petersburg).

That's not too far. Please share. Not that I'm interested in 1000, but a 300-500 yard would be very nice.
Thanks

They tell me the southern part of NH has a range with 1000 yard targets, the best I've found in 30 years around here is 500. The range they hold the High Power matches at is 200

BUT, can you shoot 0.25" groups?? ;)
-
Yes. Depending on the rifle.
And the range
A friend of mine has a couple rifles that will shoot 1/4 MOA

At 1000 yards I'd be damned pleased to shoot 25" groups. I also think the taget would appreciate the effort (it would give both of us a good story to tell). ;)

The national palam team(1000 yds open sights) use to shoot at the sac valley shooting center. They still have 1000 yard range, They left after the coach passed away. I think they moved to VA.
Its about a hour and 30 mins away from me. Its a great range, but its way out in Ione. Its HUGE.
http://www.sacvalley.org/
There is some tours and the like on youtube as well.
-
Of course it's huge. I wasn't joking about shooting down runways, a 3000 foot runway is enough for small jets.
I've seen B-17's and B-24's use that length runway.
-
not just the 1000 m range, but every thing else there. they have every thing from a 13 stand to action pistol range there. the place is in the thousands of acres(640 to a sq mile)
oh yeah a 3000' run way is short.
I've got 2 form SAC bases here in town. The main run way at mather AFB is 11300' thats about 2.15 miles...
Its one of the few one the west coast that can handle the biggest planes. I was at the air show they had there a couple years back. They had that russian plane there( you know the biggest plane ever built) It made C5s look small. just think about that for a second.

I've seen the Concorde, B-52's and 747's land at Bangor, and B-52's land at Pease. Of course they were both built for B-52's and KC-135's that still fly out of there (Pease NH Air guard)
I know the Soviet transport you mean the Antonov An 225.

yeah. There was c5 right next too it, it was about 25% bigger.
It was some where in the 275' long and I'd say close to 300' wing span. ( from memory, you can check th eweb site to find out exactly) It was massive.
a c5 is like 250' long and 225' wing span.
the wing span of a 747 is ~ 195' and like 230' long
so its one big MOFO.
