Title: Training in central Texas
Post by: A-n-P on December 26, 2010, 11:09:46 PM
Can anybody help me out? I would like to find a defensive pistol class that I can use my daily carry gun and carry it the way I carry  day in and day out. I dont want to have to take a class that has a particular gun that has a high capacity mag and a particular way to holster and carry it. I want to train with the tools and equpment I carry daily. Does anybody know of a class that lets you train with your choice? I live in the central Texas area and would like to train somewhat close, say no more than 5 or 6 hours away. Thanks for the advice all.

Its been awhile, but if you live near Austin call Macbride's guns. They've been there forever and were offering CHL licence classes fom day one. I'm sure they can give you at least a list of instructors.

Thanks....but I have had my CHL for a few years now i  am looking for more of a defensive training class not just the class to get a CHL. A lot more in depth training like i see on downrange tv, would like to find such training here in texas if anybody knows of any that teach using what I would carry daily. The way i see it why train with a high capacity plastic 9mm using an outside the waistband holster if i dont carry that. I am looking for a class that would allow me to train with what i carry. Anybody know of any type facility like this?

I was just suggesting you call them for that info as they are plugged in with a lot of instructors.

There are a few members from Texas here at DRTV, m25operator, and Johnny Bravo, come to mind, Garland area; perhaps a PM inquiry could narrow it down.

Local gun shops, ranges, even a quick Google search.

This one may be worth a phone call.

Somebody knows somebody in just a five minute search, that should lead you to what you are looking for.

Good Shooting.

Dallas Safari Club might be a good place to start looking.

If you can get down to the Houston area, 360 Tactical Training (http://360tacticaltraining.com/index.php/instructors/) would be a great place to attend. I had the opportunity to be trained by Lead Instructor, Paul White, while attending a Combat Focus Shooting Course.  Paul was real down to earth and very knowledgeable.

Its a bit north of central TX, but TacPro outside of Dallas/FW seems to have a good reputation.  I think they allow you to train with your own weapon.

I have taken a couple of force on force classes that Karl has taught.  He's a good guy.

Mark Howe teaches up NE Texas. I have never taken a course with him but I sure would like too.
