Title: The Quaker eats crow on .410 SD rounds?
Post by: fightingquaker13 on December 29, 2010, 02:30:22 PM
As all of y'all know, I have loudly and publically dissed .410 for SD from a pistol. The argument was that the shot was too small and the spread too large and the penetration was less than you would get from using .45 Colt from either your Bond or Judge. Funny thing happened. Someone at Winchester seemed to be thinking along the same lines. They have this new shell called (and forgive me for rolling my eyes, but "Supreme Elite"? Isn't that a bit over the top, or at least redundant? ::)):
Stop the Threat Supreme Elite .410
Anyhoo, marketing blarney aside, the things look damn solid. Its three metall discs, that look like half of a slug cut into 1/6ths and ten BB shot. Sort of a miniature version of the old "buck and ball". I've not seen any penetration tests, but this seems to allay my fears about .410 bird shot equaling a pissed off BG and a lawsuit. This looks like a damn serious round for a ten feet away scenario. I'll include a link to Gander Mountain's site where they are selling it (at a pretty fair price too). Thoughts?

even w/o a wizzbang round - I'd not want to get shot in the face with a load of bird shot

course it might improve my looks a bit

That was always my concern  Wtr. I have no doubt about .410 birdshot stopping a fight if you hit the bad guy in the face. My doubt is about my ability to actually hit him in the face in a close up attack :-\. I want something that will work with a torso shot. This looks like it might do the job.

In NJ a round like that would probably get you 15-20 for "malicious intent". Sounds like it would work just fine, though.

I'd wager a load of bird shot there would take the fight out of a guy at bad breath distance too - wouldn't be my #1 choice - and I'm sure there are a few hombre's out there that could suck up a hit there - but darn few

I saw this several months ago.  Like Jay said, it's probably considered too harmful to kill someone with!

DOH!

To summon the spirit of the Duke to respond "Well mister, if I didn't have malicious intent, I wouldn't have shot the son of a bitch". ;D

Most of us realize FQ is joking , and this will be a nit picking comment, but that mindset could be the difference between going home and going to prison.
DO NOT say, "He pulled a weapon on me so I killed the SOB", The proper mindset is "He pulled a weapon on me so I shot until I wasn't scared any more".
That will explain the second and third  magazines.  ;D

"But Sir, can you please explain to the court why you then took pictures of the victim and posted them on an internet forum!?!"

(We'd expect no less you know.)  ;D

As far as .410 for SD. The primary reason to carry a pistol is CC.  You can pack a LOT more rounds of lethal ammo in a LOT less space with to many other calibers.  .410 pistols are still kinda a gun without a real actual practical application IMO.   :-\

But, if you just GOTTA be different...  To each their own.  :)

Actually, Quaker, crow can be quite tasty.  After cleaning your crow, split it into halves along the breast/backbone line and brine it in a mix of kosher salt and brown sugar with a bit of terragon mixed with a 50-50 dry white wine and water solution.  Allow your crow to stay in the brine for up to 4 hours.  Remove the two halves and pat them dry.  Make several small slits in the skin over the breast, thighs and drumsticks and insert unsalted small patties of French butter.  Place the halves skin-side up in a roasting pan and bake in a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes to a half-hour.  Serve with a roasted corn medley.  It pairs well with Georgia moonshine.

Bon appetit, mon frer.

Offered by Crusader, who's jus' lookin' to hep!
