Don't know about others, but the pictures aren't showing up for me.  Too big maybe?

I got the pics. The only problem was that they were not as advertized. If it was a "vacation well spent" there was supposed be a beach, bikini clad barmaids, and a big fish hanging by the dock. Instead it shows this dumb ass who spent a lot of time and money to go up a steep, slippery slope in freezing cold where he could easily fall to his death. I think its one of those "scared straight" deals where its like an alternative to prison for youthful offenders. ;D

Wow, the Quaker said it all, succinctly, correctly and without misspellings. :)  I've got to give him props.  The only other thing I would point out out is the immediate proximity of what appears to be rocks in those pictures. :o  That's just nuts!  ;)

But, if you enjoyed it, and are able to write about it from some place other than a hospital bed, well...  I'm glad you had a good time.

Good for you JC.  Certainly a sport that requires skill, strength, stamina, concentration and all the right equipment.

Did a bit of climbing when I was a young man but never the ice walls.  I spent a year in Iceland while working for my Uncle Sam and they say the ice climbing is incredible up there.  Too bad I was young and dumb unskilled enough back in the day but lacked the financial resources to pursue the sport.

Good thing there were plenty of other things to occupy my senses......ie....Scandinavian women..... ;D ;D

I can only laugh. For 2 reasons. First because I know that FQ did similar things in his youth. Second because 3 days later I went back and climbed this thing alone. (Yes completely insane, but nobody had the day off)  Also FQ, I have found that this is the best way to get the attention of the bikini clad maidens.  ;)

You caught me on the climbing JC. :-[ Still, never ice, though winter in West Virginia wasn't all that balmy if the wind kicked up. As far as the maidens? There were some who were into the scene. Most of them were less into shaving though, but it was the '80s. :-\ As far as a solo ice climb? Gotta say thumbs down. That's just a good way to have your epitaph read "What did he think would happen". Seriously, I'd miss picking on you. Go directly to the corner (where TABs Christmas decorations might be there to be impressed). ;D

I will conceed that soloing is not the most desirable idea. HOWEVER equipment and techniques developed in recent years have made it a (relatively) safe/sane endevour. I personally use this nifty little device.

I think I'll just stick to the old fashioned method of impressing cuties, a thick wallet and fancy car.  ;D

Good point, because it has been my experience that once impressed they spent the rest of the time trying to get you to quit!

One advantage though is that they don't try to take all your climbing gear when they hit the door.   ::)

Wish I had thought of that one about 16 years ago !

Not today. Tommorow? He'll have learned to cruise the bottom of icy cliffs. He can take them off the bodies. Who knew? ;D

So what part of WY were you in for this? I've seen spots like that near Guernsey, especially near the hard rock mines. I looked at some land there some years back that were old open faced mines and thought that renting the vertical walls out would be an interesting pasttime.

From the color, though, I'm guessing farther west, like the Lander area. Although there are probably some good climbing areas up near Sheridan and the Big Horns.

That sounds like most women (not mine- but most) who meet musicians at performances. Once they are "with" you they want to stop you from doing what you were doing that attracted them in the first place.

We were on Casper Mtn. This spot is about 15 min from my house. In the central part of the state.

Of course they do.  If it attracted them, it will attract the competition.

Funny thing is though, if they do manage to get you to stop, then they get all mad because you are not the same man that they fell for.  ::)

I'm so confused, going to the corner to collect my thoughts......Shouldn't take long. ;D

There are two theories about how women think and how to understand them.

Neither one works.
