Title: The Right Video And Music, Is The Best Therapy, When Building An AR
Post by: twyacht on January 08, 2011, 06:46:08 AM
Sat. morning. Just completed putting my POF billet lower receiver together.  Bushmaster Lower Parts Kit, Falcon Industries Ergo Grip. Magpul MOE oversize trigger guard. Thank you bafsu for creating another "brand whore".. ;D

I like the Samson ARMS flip up sights, as the rear sight has two ghost rings, AND a standard "notch" for distance shooting. (which I prefer)...

Thank You m25, for the heads up on the Miculek Comp.

I thought it would be tougher to assemble than it actually was. TIP use a razor blade to hold down the front takedown detent spring , and detent....insert the pin, remove the blade, and Presto!!!

My upper should arrive next week, it is my Frankenstein. 8) When it gets here, the parts read like the old Penthouse Forums... ;)

But here is what I was drooling over, with some excellent music to "Build By"....

Good weekend to you guys.

Congrats, on your first. It becomes addictive, I'm on my third. This one is going to become a pistol!

Actually the notch on top is for close in shooting. Because of the difference in height between the sights and center line of the bore, when you sight in (50-100 yds), shots at 10 yards are going to hit 2'ish inches low. Using the notch on top corrects for that. I'm guessing if you practice and learn how your firearm shots off of the notch at distance, you could use it for a static second sight picture. Good luck on the rest of the build.

Thanks bjtraz. I wanted to keep this one totally different than my Sig556. No optics, no vertical foregrip, much lighter, and simple.

I've never been a huge fan of ghost rings, but I can learn. That's why the notched rear seemed a viable option. The upper I have coming is a flat-top. So I'll have to see how these flip ups do when I get it complete.

I can always put a red dot on it, but I'd like to keep this one without.

Thanks again for the 2ish inch, tip. Can hardly wait to get the upper.

Post pics of your "pistol" when it gets together.

twyacht, I noticed you didn't mount a buffer tube yet. If you haven't picked one up yet I found a source for the PWS tubes that is half the price of anywhere else I've seen them. I just got my 2nd one from them the other day (they have pretty good prices across the board) and they ship fast. I selected USPS Priority and had my order in 2-3 days both times: http://westernsportonline.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=10&products_id=522 (http://westernsportonline.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=10&products_id=522)

I just got back from my FFL and picked up one of the AR15.com limited edition POF lowers and another Noveske matched upper and lower. The Noveske is going to become a 16" 6.5 Grendel, probably with a 13" LaRue rail. The POF is getting a 7" VLTOR VIS over a 7.5" Shillen barrel that's been in my parts box for a while now. That will be my new short barrel toy and the Grendel is going to be my new hog assassin. I can't wait to see what the 120gr Barnes Triple Shock X does to an angry pig.

It was a great deal at http://www.ar15broker.com/

On tues, hopefully, when I can post some picks, I'll list off the upper parts. it will be an awesome platform.

Thankfully, the multi-cal POF lower, lends itself into a whole host of options. Like the 6.5, 6.8, 7.62x39, 5.7. Although, I'll probably go 6.5 or 6.8 with a 18-20" upper for sending the very best,....

Love the Noveske stuff, Shillen also....But I'm married with children..... :-\ So not in the works just yet. keyword: YET... 8)

Thanks again for the resources, tips, advice, and links.

I hear you, I've got 2 little ones as well, really cuts into the budget. I've become a careful shopper and only do a personal build for every 10 or so I do to sell or trade. This way very little comes out of pocket for my build.

Not bad but I've got my latest build listed right now on AR15.com for $1050 OBO / Trades and it has way more extras including all Armalite internals except the CMMG ambi-safety, 4# single stage tactical trigger and full Magpul furniture including a CTR. It's so fresh I haven't even bothered to put a muzzle device on yet, I'm letting the buyer pick between an A2, Phantom, Levang Comp or Fabian Bros. Comp:

That a sweet looking black gun. My friends just went out bought the sportical from dpms and they just blazed thru some rounds.
I told them that I didnt hear it til they built their own hybrds. They looked at me like i didnt know that I was talking about. So had to go thru in details and show them our topics. so hopefully they stop in.

Good bits of advice breezzer, they can get that sportical a serious bit of upgrades, without breaking the bank.

Hope they chime in.
