I'd like to get some opinions on the Ruger p97 .45 auto.

I bought one when they first came out. I owned it several years without any FTF. It was really accurate with 200gr Hornady XTP bullets ( I had bought some already loaded form Wilson Combat) The weapon returned from recoil the best I have ever experienced. I sort of reminds me of a M1 Garrand in the retrurn from recoil department. I put a set of PT night sights on it and did not like the sight picture they gave me, I would stay with the Ruger factory sights. P90 mags fit and function fine. If you get one - keep it!

Thanks for the info on the P97. I have one and like it, but after I fire the first round there's quite a bit of slack in the trigger and it's almost like a hair trigger for the next shot. Is that normal? Should I send it to the factory to get it checked?

I have a P97. It has proven to be very reliable. I have about 3000 rds through mine. The DA trigger is not bad and SA is very nice - not the hair trigger you described. You might want to have a 'smith look at the trigger. The SA trigger pull on mine is about 5 lbs if I recall correctly.
