Since when is an open challenge or hope for a competitor considered a threat?

A Minnesota chiropractor and rising mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter says he was questioned by the Secret Service after declaring that he wanted to face President Obama in his next bout, MyFoxTwinCities.com reported Thursday.

Jacob Volkmann told MMAFighting.com he wanted to take on Obama because of his position on health care policy -- and his challenge was not taken lightly.

He says he was coaching a youth practice on Tuesday when a police officer and Secret Service agent questioned him about threatening the president.

An open response in an interview following a victory about your dreams for a future bout, and you get visited by the Secret Service due to a threat on the safety of the President  ???

I started this as a new thread rather than drift the thread on the Arizona shooting, but you know that that event and the spin on free speech that is taking place will lead us to more of the Minnesota response.

Note:  This made the airwaves (I heard it on the radio Friday), but it did not make the newspapers up here  >:(

" I want a chance to give Obummer a good beating" is a threat ?
Considering how many times I've said I'd like to see him and his cronies hung, I guess I know what all those clicks and buzzes on my phone are about.
I'd still like to see them tried, convicted and hung, shot, gassed, electrocuted,  injected or even beheaded like Anne Bolyn.
I'm not real picky about method, it's all about result.  ;D

"Tom who? Oh, yeah, I've heard rumors about that guy. Isn't he the evil computer genius that gets off on sending subversive postings under other people's names? I'd thought they'd caught him for identity theft awhile back". ;D

If that were true most of my political rants would be posted under your name  ;D
I'm just an American, who, by the rights vested in me by the 1st Amendment, is not required to give a crap whether my thoughts and opinions are offensive or not.

He'll most likely also be audited by the IRS.....(old Nixon trick),.....either way, Chicago methods are in use......Somehow, Hugo Chavez, does the same thing....

Funny, When Uncle Assam, criticized Saddam Hussein, back in Iraq, Uncle Assam was taken at 3:15 a.m. and never came home.

Seems some jack booted thugs in the SS, did the same thing,.......It of course hasn't come to that,....."yet"........

Under the heading of unfortunate circumstances you do know that this guy will end up all over the "hate" ads tied to what happened in Arizona.  This is just the type of everyday normal talk that the media has been blasting and the proposed legislation will flag.  It has happened everywhere else in society, and now it is going to send its roots deeper.

This is another case of not wasting a good crisis, the Az shooting will be used by the left to attempt to shut up all criticism of their socialist policies by labeling it as "Hate speech" .
The same way they tried to shut down debate by labeling all who disagree as "racists".
It's one of the tactics Alinsky specified .

An Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter has been placed on administrative leave from his job at a Minnesota high school after he insulted President Obama’s intelligence and challenged the commander in chief to a fight.

Jacob Volkmann told Fox News Radio that he is under investigation by White Bear Lake High School, where he has worked as a part-time assistant wrestling coach for three years.
“They didn’t like how I was representing the school,” he said. “They said I was representing them bad because of what I said about the president and his policies.”
Marisa Vette, the school district’s director of communications, confirmed to Fox News Radio that Volkmann is on paid leave. She refused to say if his comments about President Obama sparked the investigation.

“We have an employee who is on leave and the district is investigating in accordance with the law,” Vette said. She declined to elaborate on the investigation or any complaints that were made against Volkmann.
Volkmann’s comments came during a New Year’s Day interview after he had won a fight. A reporter asked who Volkmann would like to fight next and he replied, “Obama.”
“He’s not too bright,” Volkmann told MMA Fighting. “Someone’s got to knock some sense into that idiot.”
The comment prompted a visit by the U.S. Secret Service after they received several calls accusing the fighter of threatening the president. However, Volkmann said the comments were tongue-in-cheek.
In addition to being a UFC fighter and assistant wrestling coach, Volkmann is a chiropractor and he said his comments were about the president’s health care reform policies.
In a later interview, he backed off the “idiot comment,” telling The MMA Hour, “The only regret I have is calling him an idiot. I don’t think he’s an idiot, but I do think he’s making a lot of mistakes.”
Volkmann was not arrested and he was not charged, but on Monday he was told to report to the school district’s human resources department. After a half-hour interview, he said he was put on paid administrative leave. Volkmann said several parents had called to complain that he was wearing a school shirt and a hat during one of his interviews.
“It’s a little irritating to be honest,” he said. “I think it’s kind of ridiculous that the school is pretty much saying you can’t voice your opinion and if you do voice your opinion you definitely can’t voice it against the policies of the president.”

This is not a new tactic for the left, look at what they did to Joe the plumber, and that was BEFORE Obummer was emaculated. One of the fundamental founding principles of this country was the RIGHT of free speech SPECIFICALLY for political discourse. The government does not and never has had the authority to regulate speech. Especially of a political nature. That right is there to protect the things that you don't agree with.

I'm tired of people being afraid to speak their minds. Like it or not boys and girls we live in an oppressive culture. Political correctness, and "perceived threats". This is BS. Just because these liberal clowns don't want their agenda to be challenged.

Look what they did to Sen. Joe McCarthy. I've read essentially the same story in multiple sources. the most readable for the average person is Ann Coulture's  "Treason". Not only does she cover the smear campaign against Joe in some detail, she names some of the KGB's agent's in the FDR and Truman administrations.

"Administrative leave"  ???  Minnesota media is reporting he was fired!

I am trying to figure out why he was fired as a coach (he doesn't teach, he just helps coach wrestling) for his statements in the context of having just winning a professional fight.  In the context of the fight arena, a legal and professional sport, he called out a person he had political and philosophical differences to face him in a sanctioned fight.  However, school teachers can call elected officials names and express all kinds of dreams and wishes in the classroom, and it is protected by tenure, freedom of speech and healthy debate.

This guy has a huge court settlement coming his way if the ACLU would be willing to cross party lines and show that they are for the Rights of all men and women and not just the left side.

By the way, I do not even give the Secret Service a pass on this one.  I understand that they need to follow up on all threats, but how is a fighter shouting a challenge a threat?
