TUCSON SHOOTING SHOWS WE MAKE IT TOO EASY
FOR DANGEROUS AND IRRESPONSIBLE PEOPLE TO GET GUNS
Our hearts and prayers go out to all of the people, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, touched directly by the shootings in Tucson Saturday.
The Congresswoman and I have met and discussed gun issues in the past. All of us are deeply saddened and angered by this tragedy. It is unacceptable that Americans of all backgrounds, as well as our elected leaders and their constituents, are constantly at risk from gun violence when assembling in public places.
The 22 year-old shooter in Tucson was not allowed to enlist in the military, was asked to leave school, and was considered "very disturbed" (according to former classmates), but that's not enough to keep someone from legally buying as many guns as they want in America.
People find this surprising, but, sadly, it's true, and we ought to be angry about it.
The troubles of the Tucson shooter are more proof that we make it too easy for dangerous and irresponsible people to get guns in this country. We have too few laws to protect our families and communities from this kind of bloodshed, and the laws we do have are riddled with too many loopholes. Arizona, as it turns out, has almost no gun laws.
Please support the Brady Campaign and help defeat the gun extremists who want to arm everyone in every place and every situation.

You'd thik they would wait for the bodies to get cold. Sad thing is the representative was pro 2A. I guess that doesn't matter. They'll use her to advance their agenda whether she would have supported it or not. Hell, if Reagan had died would it be the Reagan Fund rather than the Brady Fund? Probably. >:( Screw these people.

I would bet not.
Mr brady was shot with a cheap snubby. not some high powered, banana cliped, beyonet mounted assult weapon of baby killing.
Why did they try and ban snubbys?

No! The Reagan family understood the difference between the tool and the workman. They also understood that removal of one tool just meant a change to another. The Reagans would not have gone down this road.
I'm waiting to see how our current Congress and Senate will handle this. Last "generation" the Bush administration lead the way of giving up something they wanted because the anti's attached the Clinton Ban sunset extension to it. They did not get suckered in and stood strong. The only way for the anti's to get it done this time will be to try and attach it. I suspect to the health insurance repeal bill. They will claim that it is health related. The pro-Rights camp needs to stand strong and not allow it to be attached! They need to force any Right denying bill to stand on its own merits and, hopefully, go down in flames.

I was being ironic M58. Of course Reagan wouldn't have wanted gun control, but the antis would have used his name in a hearbeat if they could have. same with this woman. She will be their poster girl whether she wants it or not.

The Reagans would not have allowed it! Any time his name was used in a program to further their agenda the family would have said "STOP!"

How did this happen? I thought all the weapons in Arizona had been shuttled across the border to Mexico by greedy Arizona arms dealers.
-
I heard a guy from the Brady Bunch on a local radio station this afternoon and he made me sick. He babbled on about the need to reinstate the assault weapons ban, banning high-capacity magazines and stricter point-of-sales legislation.

Actually, Bush supported AWB renewal and would have signed it if Congress could've put it on his desk.

At that point of his Presidency he had the support that if he had wanted it to go through it would have gone through.

“The reason he was able to be tackled was he had to pause to reload,” Dennis Henigan, vice president of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, told The New York Times. “The problem is, he didn’t have to pause to reload until he’d already expended 30 rounds.”
Apparently the fact that this young man had issues that he wasn't dealing with properly, whether self inflicted, from birth, of from outside sources, wasn't the problem at all. This tragedy was all caused by the fact that he didn't need to reload his gun often enough ::)
I give NBC credit in this story for doing pretty damn well with their terminology! "Semiautomatic pistol," "casings," "30 - round
magazine," "plus one in the chamber," and "a total of 31 rounds." The only error I caught was "he bought bullets."
As sad as the whole event is and with all the spin and ignorance concerning this, it is refreshing to see writing with proper terminology for a change.

bush didn't push the AWB, he did say he would sign it if it made it too his desk. IMO, there is no diffrence between the too.
The way I see it, he said he approved of it, just was too lazy to push it thru.

Apparently, you have a different definiton of "leading the way" than I do.
-
Actually GW saying He would sign the bill, and He probably would have, was good politics, He knew it was not going to happen, not laziness, caginess, of course if something like this had happened to push it, it could have been different. GW is why we have ccw in Tx now, a lot of people don't like him, but Rick Perry has continued to strengthen the ccw laws and now we can carry without a license in our vehicles. Hell He carries and regardless of your thoughts, killed a coyote with his Ruger Lcp with crimson trace laser on a daily jog, how many governors can claim that. ;D Even in the suburbs of Dallas where I live, we have an aqua duct for flood control behind the house, and coyotes do travel up and down it, I have killed 2 possums and 72 squirrels in my back yard and you would think no way if you drove through the neighborhood. Squirrels yes they are everywhere, but possums not so much, surprising I have not killed a raccoon.
-
EVERYBODY has possums, Benny, even me...on an island on the Atlantic. (Ok...there ARE two bridges). I had to go out and get all new lock-down trash cans 'cause they kept coming around to eat and would get stuck in the cans and scare the girls. Only a few squirrels, but we have a TON of bunnies since they got rid of the cat lady around the block. There are so many they're coming up 8 steps to make nests in our flower planters on the porch.
-
I have even seen Possums up here. Never a live one yet, but a couple weeks ago there was a dead one on some ones lawn on my way to work, Squirrels everywhere, and once in a while a Raccoon.
As a cool side note, along the river between the 2 lakes we have Bank Beaver, and the other day when I was crossing one of the bridges I saw an Otter doing the back stroke. ;D I wanted to watch longer but I had to get somewhere.
