Picked this one up today in a pawn shop! Old Model Ruger Blackhawk convertable .357 Mag/9mm. Rugers website puts it at 1972. I believe the grips to be correct, as Dougans Know Your Ruger Single Actions, the 2nd decade says that Ruger started putting those grips on thel guns in 71. There are a couple things I wonder about. One, the very tall looking front sight. It looks like some of the sights they put on the .45 LC. The other, the grip frame looks to have that backed on paint on it, instead of anodizing. The gun itself does not appear to be re-blued, at least not that I can tell.

The sights look the same as the Super Blackhawk to me.

You own it, shoot it, I think you will like it in both calibers, nice combo. Go have fun and don't worry, if it does not shoot well in either caliber, get back to us, but I think you will be pleased.

I have already shot it, and it shoots pretty good. It is only about 15 degrees here today, so I did not shoot long! But, it shot pretty good with both cylinders. Gotta wait until it warms up some to really wring it out!

Looks correct to me, sights and all. Haz or Majer are "Three Screw" collectors, they should be able to verify that.
Looks like my old Blackhawk I bought back in the early eighties but mine had the transfer bar so I could fully load and carry it safely.
Sure wish I still owned it... :'(

Nice find. Hope you got a good price. The sights look correct. This is from a 10 year old used buying guide. Slight discrepancy in dates, but that's not uncommon.

It says the .45 L.C. / .45 ACP was discontinued in 1985. I bought one new in 1991. Did they reintroduce them, or were they ever discontinued? Bill T.

I'm not a Ruger "officiando", Bill. That's what was in my used gun guide.
Of course, you could have bought it in '91 but it may have been in the dealer's display for 6 years. I just bought my SW 624, New In Box last month. It was made in 1985. So it had never been "sold" but had been in dealer/distributor inventory for 25 years.

Looks like a great addition to your collection. Front site looks correct as are the "squashed chicken" grips a call to Ruger at 603-863-3300 ask nicely for the records department and when you give the nice Ladies there your Serial # They will tell you the ship date and Model( Should be a BKH34X) They will also ask you if you would like a Free Factory letter stating all the information they have for your Blackhawk as well as a reprint of the owners manual and a Ruger catalog. Has it had the safety conversion and if it has did you get the original parts to unconvert it?

No, I purchased it direct from Davidson's up in Prescott when I had my FFL. They are one of the biggest Ruger distributors in the country and only sell direct to licensed dealers. Bill T.

Have a letter on the way to them. It is unconverted.
