Title: DuctTape and Glocks?
Post by: fightingquaker13 on January 14, 2011, 10:05:20 AM
Ok
I am obviously bored. So I thought I would ask a question about two of the finest tools on the planet. Duct tape and Glock sub-compacts. I watched Diehard for the zillionth time last week. I know Willis wasn't using a Glock when he taped the pistol to his back.....But,in true Myth Busters fashion: Could you duct tape a small sub-compact pistol to your back and fire repeatedly without the tape fouling the slide? Well? Enquiring minds want to know. ;D

I doubt the duct tape would have held as in the movie, He was slick with sweat, even duct tape won't stick to water, and he only had 2 cartridges left, 1st one sure, second one maybe, you got duct tape, you got Glock tape it up and give a range report, will probably be positive, but only how much tape will know. A little plus, hopefully some of you will like, I had a good friend on Dallas Swat, not a gung ho soldier, but smart, small and agile, with some really good knowledge  that at times he would share, He worked nights mostly and after work would jog around the police station, south Dallas is not the coolest place to be around at night, his method of carry was a Glock 19 in his shooting hand, covered with a black sock, yes a foot sock, 1 night as he was passing a warehouse, the gate was open and he was attacked by a Rhodesian Ridgeback dog, used for protection by the owner of the warehouse, he shot and killed the dog, of course the Glock only fired 1 round'  bound as it was until he pulled the sock off and racked the slide, the owner was quite upset, and confronted my friend, who at that point displayed his badge and just let him know, his best course of action, was to tend to his dog and not allow this to happen again.

Wonder what MB and Rob might have to say about this method of carry?

Interesting method of carry.  Can't get much quicker than having your gun in your  hand.

He needed to remove the sock before firing, which might be risky since you almost surely will sweep your off hand.

Maybe a "Lanyard" cord attached to the toe of the sock with the other end fastened to your belt or maybe  held in  your off hand.  Extending your gun arm or pulling the cord might remove the sock.

You don't need to remove the sock before firing, just know your only getting to get off 1 shot.

I realize that and see it as a limitation.

A reasonable limitation, 1st shot immediate, 2nd shot maybe 3 seconds later, not the the best, but as I said, nobody saw the 1st one coming.

Don't know about a Glock, but sock carry could work for a concealed-hammer revolver or a derringer....wonder if would pass the TX CHL definition of "concealed"?....

And, if all else fails, you could always beat hell out of someone with it............  :o
