Read or scan to the end of the article, and read the response from Gov. Perry's spokesperson, and the Border Patrol Spokesman.

In the ghost town of Fort Quitman, 80 miles southeast of El Paso, four US road workers were up at dawn attending to "shovel ready" jobs by filling potholes with gravel. Unfortunately, "at least one Mexican gunman," who probably just wanted a chance to do jobs Americans won't do, "fired a high-powered rifle across the border," barely missing the workers.
"The bullets struck private land ...about half a mile from the border fence." Thankfully, the quartet escaped unharmed. "Mike Doyle, Chief Deputy of the Hudspeth County Sheriff's Office, said after the fact, a rancher spotted a white pickup fleeing the area on the Mexican side at 10:30 a.m. -- the time the shots were fired."
According to Doyle, "Drug cartels use this busy smuggling corridor in between the Quitman Mountains and mountains in the northwestern part of Chihuahua State to traffic marijuana and sometimes cocaine." The chief deputy explained the incident by saying: "The gunman might have shot at the road workers to distract them or get them to flee."
So in other words, criminal interlopers tried to get American workers to disperse from territory where they had every right to work and exist in order to "get them outside [the] area?"
Francisco "Quico" Canseco, R-Texas said: "It is completely unacceptable that Americans at work, doing their job in America, come under gunfire from across the border in Mexico. Our border is not secure from violence that threatens American lives. Securing our border against the cartels and their violent threat must be a top priority."
After the shooting, two Texas Rangers and Hudspeth County Sheriff Arvin West and Chief Deputy Doyle were at the scene looking for the bullets with a metal detector, which when weighed against the alternatives is preferable to a medical examiner digging bullets out of heads.
"The U.S. government built narrowly spaced steel poles north of the Rio Grande to fence the border in that West Texas area. The slots are not wide enough for people to cross, but small objects can fit between the 15-foot-tall poles." Thus, the lone gunman must have been dedicated to scattering the workers because nothing deterred his squeezing the gun barrel through or shooting off the bullets.
This particular shot across the border initiated Hudspeth County into an elite group. "In El Paso, stray bullets from a drug-related gunfight hit City Hall in June. Another stray bullet struck a University of Texas at El Paso building in August." And to date, newlywed David Hartley's body has yet to be recovered after being shot by Mexican gunmen on Falcon Lake, a border area near Laredo, Texas.
After the bullets missed the US four workers, the men were escorted away from the scene, which successfully accomplished the original intent of the shooter: Disperse the crowd and clear the area so as to drive unhindered right on through to Texas. Moreover, and much to the relief of the high-powered rifleman, Border Patrol spokesman Bill Brooks assured drug- and gun-runners, as well as marauding banditos with high-powered rifles, that Border Patrol does not plan to deploy additional agents to the area. Brooks vowed: "There is no beefing up in any way."
Governor Rick Perry's spokeswoman, Katherine Cesinger, said that "If these reports are true, it is yet another incident of border violence and spillover. It goes back to the need for the federal government to provide more resources to the border, which is certainly feeling the effects of the escalating violence in Mexico."
Nevertheless, not all is lost. Texas could follow Arizona, a state that recently chose to address violent behavior by distributing "Together we Thrive" tee shirts.

I can't believe we don't have our own "high-powered rifles" by Texas NG,or somebody, on the hilltops, to shoot the hell back.
1/2 mile? Chey-Tac, McMillian, or Barrett, are just getting warmed up. Geez, just like the Somali pirates....we don't do nuthin'... >:(

RETURN FIRE!!!
Mr I shot a coyote on my morning run Perry.
-
If their government can't stop it, we should declare war and stop it ourselves.
-
Heck the American Government probably gave the BG the gun and ammo to shoot at the workers, obama and czars at work
-
trust me, all the workers will be arming themselfs right now. There are 3 trades you really don't ever mess with
1 iron workers
2 Paving(AKA road way)
3 brick layers.
Picking a fight with any of these three will mean you have the entire crew on your ass.
-
I think a paving truck makes a fine platform for a Barrett.
We don't have any Caucasian brick layers here in S. Florida anymore.
The iron workers and pipe fitters, even welders, that are worth their salt are all subs from somewhere else. :-\
-
damn shame about the brick layers.
The mason I use all the time is killer. the crew is all legal, whats scary is he has 3 mason, but only 1 hod carrier. A black guy that is scary strong and is paid twice what the masons are. The guy can grab a 80 lb bag of morter and rip it in half strait down the middle. Normally its 2-3 hod carriers per mason. this is the 1st guy I've ever seen that can keep 3 masons going all by himself. normally thats like a crew of 5-7 lol.
-
We never had "American" mason's. The old timer's were all Italians ;D

Isn't firing across a border at the citizens of another country an act of war? If the Mexican government does not stop this action are they not condoning the action and thus declaring war?
I suggest a small armed ground force, with air support at the ready. If a work crew is fired on, the ground force responds with equal force. If the ground force is unable to solve the issue across the border we call in the Apaches!
-
IIRC Pancho Villa was not representing the Mexican Govt. when he drew a US Army expeditionary Force down on his head.

Yes, and certain presidents would have told that to their face. And backed it up.
But they know. In fact, they are counting on TX and AZ striking back and .gov slapping them down. Because they know .gov are buried in ROE red tape.

You are wrong, It is treason, and self serving politics that is burying them . After all, they are the ones who made up the ROE and red tape to avoid fulfilling their Constitutional obligations with the purpose of shifting the voting demographic.

Well I cant speak for all the Italians but I volunteer to watch there backs.

I was watching comedian Ron White last night, and he had an interesting take on border security. He suggested that the Army and Marines, with air support from the USAF, and naval bombardments from the USN, just start moving south and take over Mexico. But don't stop there. Keep moving down into Central America until we reach the Panama Canal, since we built it in the first place. Then put up a big south-facing sign on the north side of the canal that reads, "Swim this, bitch!!"
Might merit some consideration. ;D

Uh, one problem here. Who exactly would object South of the border (except for Mexicans who have to put up with Central Americans)? Why sneak into America when America will come to you? Invade Mexico? That just saves them the smuggler's fees. Thanks, but no. :-\

I think it's a proven technique.
If someone shoots at you, shoot back. It discourages the amatuers.
Tam, I worked as a bricklayers helper in a steel mill in the summers. Yes they did not take any crap from anyone.
They had some real beasts working there and it was a great way to keep in shape for wrestling season.

So if you are a road worker in a border state, you need: Hat, Gloves, Shovel, High Powered, High Capacity, Long Range, Scoped Assault Rifle, Lunch Box, Water Jug.
Have a happy day at work! ;D

Make for a hell of a hedge row along the fence.

We could take a page out of the Koreans handbook, and just mine the border. Call it the BE militarized zone? ;D

I would like to apply for the position of "Crew Sniper" ;D
I provide my own tools, but as our furry little alien from GA says "Will work for ammo." ;D ;D

It would never work.
They would all be turned toward Washington DC

Point 'em both ways.......... more like a "Win-Win" for the American people......

From Texas ? Range for one thing, all the real American's in between for another .
We'll need 2 rows, one around the beltway and the other along the border.
It will be expensive but who cares, it's for the children, and their children, and their children's children.....

I fail to see how this will be more expensive than this "supposed" border fence that they keep talking about. Really we should be able to contract an AMERICAN manufacturer to kick out 50,000 claymores. And with this economy we could probably get it done cheap! Take that 49 billion for the fence,(http://articles.sfgate.com/2007-01-08/bay-area/17225174_1_border-fence-border-patrol-arrests-san-diego-border) pay the guy a couple mil, and throw a 4th of July party with the rest. ;D

Nice idea but your a little light on the number needed. Korean DMZ
The Numbers
North and South Korea rely on mines in their “peacetime” military and security policies to stop border crossings. An estimated 1.2 million landmines litter South Korea today. The South Korean Defense Ministry reportedly confirmed that 1.05 million anti-tank and anti-personnel mines are laid in "major defense areas north around the civilian control line and the demilitarized zone. In the rear areas, about 75,000 anti-personnel mines [are] installed for security." North Korea has also placed approximately 1 million "dumb" mines along their side of the DMZ. Experts do not believe that North Korea has laid mines in any other areas.

I don't understand how this can be happening? Doesn't Mexico have strict gun control laws in place? Bill T.

It appears that the Mexican police have been busy with other things.

Actually it is. Him and evey other pro-drug war, soft on the border President. Pretty much all of them since Ike. Here's a modest proposal. End prohibition and use the savings on the Border Patrol and ICE. Direct half of new drug tax revenues to border security. Use the empty jail cells to house those who hire illegals. Just a thought.

here is what amazes me about the war on drugs...
how can you win the war on drugs if you have a boarder that is unsecure?
Wouldn't you 1st logical step be to prevent drugs from entering the country by controling the boarders?
I mean thats what you do when your trying to prevent pests from entering your home.
-
All that needs to be done is give the Border Patrol shoot to kill orders for ANY fence jumper. After the first 5 are shot dead the word will spread, quickly! Yes, it will create an uproar. Too bad. Let it be known if ANY illegals riot here, or destroy any property, they will they will be regarded as enemies of the state, and will be jailed indefinitely. This nonsense would stop overnight. And it would also send a message to the rest of the world, including China, that we as a nation are through fu*#ing around! The choice is ours, which do we want more? Pacified illegals and progressive liberals, or a secure border? I'll take the latter. Bill T.

They look at jail as just another apartment complex.......only in a smaller neighborhood.

Bill and Peg are only partly right, Cut off the benefits and jail their employers.
That would eliminate the incentive to come North in the first place.

Well, yeah...I was just getting at the point that they view jail as an 'alternate benefit' if the first line don't work out for them. Jail is still better than Mexico for most of them.
You are 100% correct that if you jail the employers you in effect kill the weed at the 'root'.

When I was on our County Fair Board we had some issues with a specific group every fair. One evening I walked into the office right after a heated exchange. After the chairman and secretary explained what had happened I said I could stay in the office, and the next time they came in to whatever I would shoot the first one as an example to the rest. I was interviewed by a few of the local newspapers once as a board member, and a couple other members were also interviewed about my tenure. Nothing like seeing that quote in the paper when it was printed.
It is that type of remark/statement that will get attention in a hurry. By the way, even though it was another member relaying my thoughts, and the group was not named, that winter and the following fair we had no issues in the horse barn for the first time in years ;D The real fun was that during the Demo Derby my responsibility was security, and I covered a 200' section of fence that started at the gate and ended at the corner of the horse barn.
