Mayor Bloomberg’s office said he would make a major announcement about guns and the federal background check system.

MANHATTAN — Mayor Michael Bloomberg will make a major announcement regarding illegal guns and the federal background check system, his office said Saturday.
The announcement will be made at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24, in the City Hall rotunda, where the mayor will be joined by Martin Luther King III, as well as friends and family members of people killed during the tragic shootings of Tucson, Virginia Tech and Columbine.
Bloomberg, who has made the fight against illegal guns one of his staple issues, spoke alongside other officials in the days following the Tucson shooting earlier this month to demand changes to federal gun laws.
Specifically, the mayor, who co-founded Mayors Against Illegal Guns, called for lawmakers to close loopholes that allow people with drug records to purchase guns.
"The more we learn, the more it becomes clear that this case is fundamentally about a mentally ill drug abuser who had access to guns who shouldn’t have," Bloomberg said of the Tucson shooting at the Jan. 11 meeting.
"As this case makes terribly clear, deadly gaps [in the nation's gun laws] still remain."
The mayor’s office did not provide further detail about what Monday’s announcement would include.

Probably be a good idea to keep anybody w a "drug record" from driving, voting, holding public office, getting married, or having kids too.

Also couldn't hurt to keep rich, elitist, progressive assholes from becoming the Mayor of a major American city.

NEW YORK (AP) — New York Mayor Michael
Bloomberg is joining with Martin Luther King III and
others affected by gun violence to advocate for
reforms to the nation's background check system.
Bloomberg was joined today by family and friends of
those injured and killed in the shootings in Tucson,
Ariz., at Virginia Tech and Columbine High School
in Colorado.
The group introduced a national campaign to close
loopholes in gun control laws.
The campaign wants to ensure that a background
check system includes the names of everyone
prohibited from buying guns.
Supporters also want every gun sale to go through a
background check.

Have been doing a lot of emails and phone calls this morning, so tv is on with sound off - I don't even get to pay attention, so missed this. However, above it what I did find posted while spilling a new cup of coffee on the desk. "... every gun sale to go through a background check." You know that that statement is code for "we are shutting down gun shows and kitchen table ffl's.
I'm sure this will be a hot topic for the talking heads as we near the State of the Union Address, and its gun agenda or lack there of. Bloomberg is priming the pump, and now we will see what comes to the surface.

Major announcement my ass. "Bloomberg exploits tragedy to call for more gun control and get free airtime"! Stop the presses. ::)
The only major announcement would be that he actually looked at the facts, changed his mind and would allow CW in NYC. Until then, the only thing I want to hear from him is "It has been my pleasure to serve as your mayor, but I am now returning to the private sector".

You and I are in complete agreement on this topic.

"Blah, blah, blah guns are bad because I say so, blah, blah, blah"
He wants Obummer to go after guns in the SOTU address. Yeah, that MAY happen, not. Even Obummer isn't dumb enough to try that after the mid-terms. If he wins the next one though...
BTW I had to search on Chicken Noddle News to find the article, figured it would be at the top

This is more of a plot to boost gun sales than it is to ban them. Just watch everyone will be buyin like mad again and prices go up. Guess it's bloomberg's plot on boosting the economy?? Well does seem to have that effect eh.

Being the stock guru he is, I wouldn't put it past him to have shares in ebr companies. Every time he opens his mouth, prices go up.
