Just noticed there is no actual board for sharp sticking instruments.
So in its absence does anyone else here covet blades, like, have an interest in or use them for a back up tool for self defence?

Where did you get the "USMC Bowie" in the middle picture ?
Case made 1000 for the Marine Raiders in 1942.
My Dad has one.
My Grand Father on my Mothers side was executor of an estate and wound up with the original Knife Jim Bowie gave to Davy Crockett, he gave it to Henry Clay when they were in Congress together, Both their names were engraved on the silver mounted sheath with the date 1821 Dad held the 2 knives side by side and the only difference was the Case had hard rubber grips while the Bowie was Buffalo horn.
He left it to the Bedford Ma. Historical Society when he died.

A board for knives is a good idea. Added to my to do list.

I would like to say its an original Tom but alas its a replica, think I got it off ebay some time back.
We have pretty strict laws here as well regarding knives "flick knives", double edged etc are a no no and you cant carry a pocket knife in most states unless you have a genuine need. I sorta poo poo the establishment in that regard as my everyday carry knife is a Boker Jim Wagner reality blade automatic. Its my act of defiance against the commie pinko nanny state establisment ie Watermelons (green on the outside and red on the inside).
One of the interesting blades there is the home made katana type of thing, its actually a bikie sword, the blade is made from a chainsaw blade and bike cogs make the hilt with Scotts bike grips for the handles. It was given to me from a rellie that had some what a shady past and it was given to him by some of the people he ran with, used to be carried along the side of the bike. (it also looks like it had been used - I KNOW NOTHING!!)
Sorry to make more work for you Marshal, it was a innocent observation :D

that list musta been shortish LOL

Sledge, this is a little off the subject from Knives. I am on another forum, unlike this one it has many liberals. One, an Aussie, keeps a running thread going about how the gun ban in Oz has saved many lives and how the crime rate has "plummeted" since the ban. I thought it was just the opposite. What is your take on the crime rate in Australia? If I am out of line hi-jacking your thread just tell me to fk-off, no hard feelings.
On the subject of knives I am awaiting delivery of my new assisted opening Gerber pocket knife. Gerber is having a sale and I got it at half price. Sale lasts through Jan. Cool knife, 3" blade nice pocket clip opens like lightening.

Funny, that ho-made Katana thingy is the one that caught my eye! Wicked cool looking!

Nice collection, digging the one on the top there. Carried a Gerber, in various styles, everyday since I was in high school. The edge is the greatest tool every invented by man, solution to just about everything. I don't get to fancy like some of you fellows, but I appreciate the nice collections.

IMHO the crime rate has not dropped because of the gun bans/buy back, gun related murder and suicide rates that the antis rave on about dropping after 96 was in decline before hand and the trend has continued. Police also like sprouting that the crime rates are down, partly becuase a lot of people now dont bother reporting crime because they know nothing will happen or they dont want to get involved because of the now very prevelant gang culture in cities like Sydney and Melbourne. Leboneset bike gangs now run most of the illegal drug and firearm crime hence no one will speak up.
If you want some facts and figures try this site put together by a couple very smart ladies both of whom I know personally.

hehe
cool if your not the one that wears it, its not that sharp, well sharp enough but its heavy like a bitch, I think it would have no issue cleaving off a arm or a leg or other if swung properly.

Thank you Sledge.

Hey a knife and blade category......
Way to stay on the "cutting edge"..... :P
Thanks Marshall.

I just ordered several straight razors. I thought I'd give it a try. I'll try and post some pics when I get them. I've collected a bunch of blades over the years. For some reason they go well with guns. Bill T.

By "give it a try", do you mean shaving with a straight razor? If so, here is some first aid advice ;D ;D...and a link that might interest you. Good luck. You will be added to the Prayer List ;D ;D
Decided I better buy some shaving salve as I nicked myself pretty good for the first time today. I read somewhere, I believe on this forum that spruce oil stops the bleeding of minor cuts, so I picked up some "Petro-Carbo Medicated First Aid Salve" from Target. I stumbled across the salve while I was looking for the legendary Proraso shaving soap Charlie, A.K.A. Clarman told me about. I know how to use the salve of course, but I'm not quite sure how to use the Proraso as it seems kind of soft, just get the brush wet and whip up a later in the dish the soap comes in? Thanks for your assistance in advance,

Just let Melanie know to advertise here in the classifieds first for the estate sale. ;D Seriously, those things scare me. I used to get my hair cut at this old school Italian barber shop called Carmello's in DC. It was $6 for a cut and an extra $5 for the whole hot towell and a shave with a straight razor thing. I did it once. The whole experience of having my face covered with a towell while someone went to work with one of those things feaked me out. It was a good shave though.
FQ13 who strongly suggests a styptic pencil as an accessory.
-
Hey Bill, are you going to call 911 before you start, or Just have Mel stand by with the speed dial ? ;D

Afraid that all my knives are user knives and not of the collector grade....but I do value a good blade as much as the next guy.

Perhaps a topic for "Other Cutting Tools" Hatchets, Axes, Machetes etc....?
I want to get a few pics taken soon of my current Axes...I have a double bit that is more than 50 years old...Belonged to my Grandfather, then my Father and now Me....

The razors will be delivered this Friday. Hopefully by Monday I'll be able to get some pictures up. Of the razors, not me! ;D Bill T.

Got a Barber Shop shave on my wedding day, by a "gay" guy who proved to me that a straight razor can shave a balloon. He really did take the shaving cream off clean without popping it.
Great shave, also got the nose, ears, sideburns, neck, and mustache (at the time),.. Even though he was a queer as a football bat, the dude was very skilled. (with a "straight razor")...not that there's anything wrong with that,..... ::)

Sounds good, but I'll stick with an Asian babe with an attitude in tight jeans. ;D Bill T.

I've got a bunch of straight razors somewhere....................haven't shaved in 30 years so I don't rightly know where they are at the moment.
Haven't had a need for them lately.
-
Its cool to see so many posts about knives and blades and not 24 hours in, should I dare send marshall a message about a thread for tactical torches? ;D
Or perhaps incorporate that subject into this section? Knives/Blades/Torches ?
-
I love the guys comment on the You Tube link with the hot Asian babe flipping the knife, "Instant Boner!" ;D How typical! Ya' gotta love it! Bill T.

I followed the link that jumbofrank posted in the weird-o-meter thread that lead to the plastic knife. Once I got there, I clicked on the self-defense tab and found something special.
21 in. Barbarian Spike Club. I think it serves as a self-defense tool just by you carrying it.
I don't know how to post a picture, but here's a link. http://www.trueswords.com/speciak-2134-barbarian-club-p-437.html (http://www.trueswords.com/speciak-2134-barbarian-club-p-437.html)
I'm glad we have a "sharpy type things" thread to put this in.

Fun toy, but sadly not pratical. The spikes will stick. A baseball bat without nails is a better weapon than one with them. Plus, a lot easier to explain to a jury than "It was meat tenderizer your honor". Still, hanging on your office wall labeled "complaint department"? Well worth the $14. ;D

Really like the old Solingen ;)

I don't use it any more.
My Dad carried it in Korea, and I carried it when I went on a Med cruise. The leather washers dry out and the handle gets loose now.

I hadn't really thought about the number of sharp things I had locked away, until I cleaned out the closet in my study. Actually just repairing the damage down by my youngest grandson, when I neglected to lock the door. Everything is original except the No.V Enfield bayo and and the K98k bayo.
