Just caught it,.... seems a post apocalypse type urban medevac rescue of a VIP, from a large metro area, like NYC.
Leaving the zombie fighting Mad Max folks? What....??? ??? The transformers?
The following video strikes me as very odd for a couple reasons, not the least of which is that this video does not seem to follow with the ones preceding it in this very same real / CGI style they have been doing since around 2006.
You will notice this is a commercial for Air Force Medevac division but watch for yourself as to what this video contains and ask yourself a couple questions. Why does it depict what appears to be an American city completely in ruins with people on a bridge that is collapsing which looks eerily similar to scenes of the film 2012? The people on the bridge are hurt and airlifted out right before the bridge collapses which would indicate a sudden and catastrophic event such as a nuclear strike, asteroid impact or perhaps a giant 10.0 earthquake. Why is this imagery used in such a way?
Secondly, the end theme as always is "It's not science fiction, it's what we do every day". Ok, well why when the plane fly's away at the end are we treated to a scene straight out of transformers and CGI, I have never seen an Air Force plane capable of such transformation, so how is it NOT science fiction?

Thoughts?
Not dissing the Air Force in any way, just wondering what separates reality from the Playstation? Advertisers/Marketers?

It wasn't a "transformer", they morphed the futuristic V tail into a current 40 year old C-141, or maybe the newer C-17.
Did you notice that in back of the woman casualty ON the bridge, there was a speed boat. ;D
Out side of Africa most cities all look basically alike. Unless it has a distinctive feature in the sky line, Empire State building in NY, Coit Tower and TransAmerica Pyramid in San Francisco, or the houses of Parliment and Big Ben in London, there is no telling where it's supposed to be.

At least it beats "An Army of One". :-[ What the hell was that all about? Did anyone even think about that one?

They drilled teamwork into us then came up with that army of one. ???
P.S. I never saw this longer version of the commercial before. And it looks like science fiction.
-
Uhm, because a lot of the recruit-able age kids spend way too much time playing video games so they think this shit is real life? Just a guess.
-
As previously stated, they are trying to get buy-in from young folks. The Marines use the human chessboard and dragonslaying in their commercials. I'm not saying it's right; I'm just saying it is.
Recruiters have a product to sell. Caveat emptor applies.

The "transformation" is from the CGI what could be to a current C-17. Note the medical equipment also changed from the Star Trek tricorder to a current monitor.
Y'all are reading WAY to much into it. This commercial has been out for a while, along with one about cyber attacks and satellite damage from some unknown projectile. Yes, it's designed to get the Wii/XBox generation interested.
The "Army of One" was a great recruiting tool. They pushed the "yes you are part of the team but you can also think for yourself" that the current "all about me" generation understands. They needed to move away from "Be all you can be" and still have a similar message. It's better than the Navy's absolutely STUPID "Global Force for Good" campaing they are currently running.

I know I'm gonna insult someone here.....but, with the exception of the brilliant techies that invent and write the code for these games (I know of a few DRTV guys that do...), most of the "gamers" I've known were.....let me put it delicately.....
BONEHEADS!
Is that what we want in the Military or am I just getting old?
Read a freaking book.....

Marketing pure and simple.
I got a photo from a friend in the USMC when he was in Iraq, looking pretty ragged.
I wrote back and asked him if he got his magic sword like in the recruiting advertisement yet?
He emailed me back that it appears they had shorted his whole platoon on magic swords but they had laughed about it for a week.

That one is almost as bad as when they (very briefly) used the Village People's "In the Navy" on one of their ads. It'll be pretty hard to beat that low mark. :P

I wonder, do recruiters still lie through their teeth when trying to get some kid to enlist?
I certainly had no idea what my rate was back in the 70's. I was told I was going to be an oceanographer. It didn't turn out that way...
::)
-
My recruiter never lied to me. He did, I found out, leave a lot of stuff out though.
-
I doubt my recruiter had a clue what an OT did back in 75. The rate was top secret, the stations were remote and we didn't, for the most part, serve our sea duty aboard ship. About as far off the beaten track as I could have gone in the Navy.
The stations were nice, Bermuda, Barbados, Antigua, Grand Turk, Cape Hatteras, Lewes, Nantucket, Hawaii, Point Sur, N. California, Coos Bay, Wales, Newfoundland, Iceland, Adak, Midway......sounded like a Cruise ship itinerary...

Maybe, what with the repeal of DADT, they should bring the Village People and their song back. It may up the enlistments? ? ? ? ;D

I think that after the initial excitement about the repeal of DADT, the poofs will lose interest in the Military and find another area of life to bitch about. Is there anything left?
They now have federal protection for most everything while we white, middle aged, middle class men in the minority, have nothing but our work ethic to help us...
-
Thing is, there is little better than a stint of military discipline to instill that work ethic in anybody. Duty, teamwork and just getting a job done. I think the average gay person, assuming they aren't harrassed and ostracized, will come out of a military hitch with a much smaller chip on their shoulder. They'll be in an environment where you get judged on how well you work with the team. If they pull their weight they shoud (hopefully) be part of the team with nothing worse than a few jokes. Just like women and blacks, you rarely see veterans leading the grievance groups. Just a thought.

I got out in 80, all I know is my ass didn't get barbecued . ;D

It was against the rules when I came in.
Now it's optional.
I'm getting out before it becomes mandatory.
