Title: My meager, but beloved Old Model Rugers

Wish I had as much as some of those boys on the rugerforum, but these are all I have right now.  Used to own a few more, but sometimes a man gets hard up for money.  Anyway, from top to bottom, .41 Mag Blackhawk, .357 Flattop ( 4 digit serial #, 1st year of production), .357/9mm Convertible, and my newly acquired Flatgate single six.

Sweet!  So they used the rubber grips on the first run flat tops!  I prefer wood BUT if that is original then keep it that way.

Yep, they used hard rubber grips on the early guns.  You could order them with walnut, ivory, or stag at extra cost.  If you can find a Flattop that letters as being shipped with ivory or stag grips, it is worth a fortune!

So do you think my .357 was originally shipped with these grips?

I doubt it. All the grips Ruger shipped had the Ruger eagle on them.

Gunman, very nice collection. I would like to get a Flat Top to add to my collection of Old Models

Haz,
The Ruger Stag & Ivory were only available for the early XR3 grip frame. When they changed to the XR3-Red they stopped offering the upgraded grips. I believe that Ruger started with the factory Walnut grips in 1959 when the .44 Mag came out a the Hard Rubber grips were too hard on the shooters hand.

Cool.  I had already swapped them for wood grips.  (Not black eagles unfortunately, just modern Ruger wood grips)  It's the bottom gun.  The top is a 3 screw Single Six with original black eagle grips.

Ruger was one of the first companies to use CNC machining in making grips. Back in the 60's they were made in a small private shop in Hopkinton NH. The guy showed my Dad his shop, (Dad used to plow his driveway ) but he threw a tarp over the machine before he let him in.

1978 Ruger Blackhawk .357 My latest handgun addition. All original, the damn thing one solid chunk of steel, very accurate, light trigger.

I love those wheel guns....
