Gee, what about the religion of peace and tolerance? Where are the Libs on this one?
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/cbs-news-correspondent-subjected-to-brutal-and-sustained-sexual-assault-in-egypt/
As a Western journalist covering the resignation of then-Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, CBS News correspondent Lara Logan was reportedly attacked by a mob of protesters while she and her crew navigated through the crowds in Cairo on Feb. 11.
According to a statement released by CBS News Tuesday, Logan was “covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a 60 Minutes story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration.” After Logan was separated from the rest of her CBS crew, she was brutally attacked, the network confirmed.
The full statement describes Logan’s horrifying ordeal:
On Friday February 11, the day Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a “60 Minutes” story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.
In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.
There will be no further comment from CBS News and correspondent Logan and her family respectfully request privacy at this time.

What a nice bunch of inspiring "freedom" seeking citizens.....Thankful women, and soldiers came to her rescue.
Still a bunch of damn savages.

"saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers."
AKA "The good people"
"a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.
In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating "
The ones Obummer supports.

Prayers out to her and her fam.
That said, I don't think I have ever seen a peaceful gathering of young unemployed males. They do not possess the character, faith, emotional stability, or discipline to hold a job. Put thousands of them together and something is going to go wrong. Whether they are taught a religion of hate or as being a victim class, the result is the same.
-
I was going to flame RW on the point that they are unemployed NOT because they are lazy but because there simply aren't any jobs.
Then I remembered the huge crime rate in civilized old England with it's 50 + % unemployment.
Add to that the fact that these people aren't particularly "civilized" and I'm not surprised she was attacked.
I'm only surprised she was not gang raped in a culture that think's any woman in western clothing is a whore.
-
I am going to go a different direction with this. I am all about equal treatment when it comes to women in the workplace, but this is just plain stupid. Forget for a moment that she is a woman. WTF are you thinking as a journalist? Lets go walking around in a MOB! The M's have covered this on the the first season of TBD:S. See a mob, go the other direction. Even armed I would not go walking into a situation like that. Why do these people think that just because they have a press badge they are immune to the chaos around them?
Having ranted that, I wish her the best and hope for her speedy recovery.

OK, Unemployed and NO ALCOHOL. Not many ways left to vent.
I am going to say she was in the process of being gaing raped.
JC, you are right but the story is always in the danger. Those reporters are adrenaline junkies.
Her security detail has some answering to do.

Agreed, however, just as with anything, a little bit of forethought and you can get the scoop without getting yourself violated.
I took a left turn into the north forty on that rant. What my real point was ties into what Tom was saying. The sheep (journalists especially) have been conditioned to think that Muslims are peaceful people and it's just the kooks causing problems. This has been and continues to be our gravest error in dealing with them as a threat. In most ANY situation. And these people have PROVEN time and time again that they are DANGEROUS in crowds.
-
It's a religion of peace and love... except for that women as chattel part where men get to do anything they want to women without fear of reprisal.
No woman, regardless of political persuasion or ideology, deserves this sort of violence. It is simply wrong.
My prayers go out for her and her family.

I don't blame the Wogs half as much as I do the managers of these networks.
What kind of f*cking moron sends a woman into the middle of a tense situation in a culture that considers women property ?
She could probably sue the crap out of her employer.
They might as well send a black person to cover a KKK Rally.

All in the name of ratings......fodder for the ratings.

Not to wish her ill, but since the ice has been broken I can speak openly and honestly:
Does the news media hand out a Darwin award? There is are fine lines between getting the story, putting yourself at risk to get the story, and flat out committing suicide. As was said by JC5123 (paraphrased) That press badge ain't a kevlar vest!
A wise man said "Don't do anything that would make them carve on your tombstone "What did he think would happen?"

While I feel bad for her, she should have never been there in the 1st place. It makes no diffrence that she was a women, no one should have been there.
-
I will go with Tab on this, no one walks into chaos with impunity, you don't have to go to Egypt to find bad places you should not be, even armed. There are places in TX, that the pistol, rifle or shotgun, go from being concealed to the front seat until I am out of there, and I did not want to be there to start with.

Absolute truth, there. But in the name of equality we now send our wimminfolk into harms way in law enforcement, the military, and other not-soo-nice places. What kind of culture have we become? What happened to the John Wayne ideal of "women and children first?"
I know I'm a relic and an antique, but I still hold the door for Bunny, and I walk on the street side, and I don't let her go into marginal situations unless I am with her (with my Glock at hand). And she makes my job a little easier by not being stoopid! Sheesh.

It's one thing to send some one of either sex into a situation they are trained to deal with, such as a woman cop or female soldier.
It is nothing but reckless endangerment to send them into a situation that A) They are not trained for, and, B) their presence increases tension.
I'll go back to my comparison with sending a black reporter to cover a Klan rally. It' not asking for trouble, it's begging for it on bended knee.

I'm with you 100%. And I'm barely in my 30's. I am old fashioned, and that is frowned upon. Believe it or not CR, I have lost quite a few relationships by doing the very things that you describe. (opening doors, actually having situational awareness) I don't believe women are weak, however I think that younger women especially THINK that they can handle things a lot better than they actually can.
My ex has been in 3 potentially deadly encounters in the last year. (attempted mugging, apt broken into with her there, and threatened at gunpoint) and still refuses to take any precautions. She won't even admit that she was in a bad situation. (and she says I have a cavalier attitude) One of the reasons we are no longer together is because I tried to help her and protect her. Apparently that is belittling to the 21st century woman. ::)

My Ex wife used to say I was paranoid for carrying a gun, until the day I drew down on a carjacker trying to get her door open .

+1 A press pass is not a magic amulet against a mob.

I once had a girlfriend who accused me of being paranoid because I carry. My response was, "I'm carrying a gun, what the hell do I have to be paranoid about?" The woman had no sense of humor.

Why is it such a shock that a woman poking her nose in to aplace she has no right being it is set upon by animals that live there?
One doesnt need to be einstein to work out that a) a woman had no place being there, b) a foreign reporter had no place being there c) the place is full of anti western hating #%^$ dregs of society one step below that of animals.
The bastards havent changed since my grandfather served over there in WW1, he hated the place and the people infact he preffered the enemy german soldiers, they at least showed resepect and honour.
The place should be treated like any other toilet and flushed regulalry to clean the shit out of the bowl.

The press seem to be the only ones taken with the majestic piety of their profession.

HI;
Just a note that the US Military is being made/study to have US Women serve/fight in combat units. I started in the military when women were clerks and other rear area support sections. With the so called need to be more tolerant for/to others I still feel that there is absolutly no reason to put women in foxholes or front line combat units.
Just also must mention that I did serve with women in a communications unit and they were damn good troops for that type of work - some could also kick ass if needed in some conditions. Also most, if not all were lesbians and did not "flaunt" it.
I know that women want to serve, I know they (most) will gladly deploy to a hostile area. I just think that most Americans do not want to have the women have to face rape and torture. It's bad enough that some are comming back without limbs - not to mention PTSD.
-
I just skimed throught most of the posts, but if it hasn't already been covered what I heard on Glenn Beck this morning is that she was raped several times. Then to add insult to injury there was a "fellow" from NYU that made a few public comments along the lines of, I'm glad it happened to her, she deserved it for being a war mongler, and so on. It guys like that, that I would really like to give a first hand demenstaration on how a bull calf is castrated durring branding season.
-
The idea of not putting women in combat roles ignores the realities of modern warfare where there are no "rear area's"
Protecting them from injury, and PTSD ? How naive.
How many nurses died in Japanese POW camps ? Over 300 if I remember correctly.
Will a woman be less messed up physically or mentally if she is a nurse or clerk or radio operator when her convoy takes an IED ? Or a suicide bomber walks into the mess hall ?
Wake up and smell the real world. You talk about how great it is that woman are getting involved in shooting, if you only apply that stateside you're a hypocrite.
