My dad, Paul Sauve', passed away today. 91 years old and independent, living on his own, until 2 weeks ago.
French Canadian by birth, he joined the US Army Air Corp after to Pearl Harbor to get into the battle. A pilot, albeit it be Piper Cubs, a POW Commandant for Japanese prisoners, NCOIC of Hickam Air Field prior to VJ day, orders to be in the second wave ashore for the invasion of Japan (thank you atomic bomb).
I'll post his war stories as best I remember them later.
If I'm absent for a while, it's because my sister and I are settling his affairs.
Alf Sauve'
USAF 437 MAW, 1986-1972
Proud my family CHOSE to be American

My sincere condolences Alf.
God Bless your father, the family and friends in this time of sorrow but rejoice in the beginning of a new journey for your Pop!
My Pop would have been 91 now as well but sadly we lost him over 20 years ago.
Take care...

I'll light a candle Alf, and I'm proud of your dad. Someone who chose to come here and sign up to fight? It doesn't get more American than that. He raised a good kid and had an interesting life. We will all keep both of you in our prayers.

91 and still independent, that in and of itself is impressive. Condolences Alf, prayers to you and the family to heal quickly, just lost my dad not that many months ago. My heart go's out to you and yours.
God Bless.

Alf, my sincerest condolences to you and your family on your Dad's passing.
As Timothy and others have said, sounds like his life is to be celebrated.
Love to hear the stories when you can. My Dad never talked much about his service, characteristic of that generation IMHO.

Please accept my condolences as well. Truly a tough time but know that he lived life to the end.
-
My condolences, too, Alf. And may your Dad (a real American hero) RIP.

Alf, My deepest condolences my friend. Celebrate his incredible life and his accomplishments as you mourn his loss. He sounds like a hell of a roll model and you do him proud.
-
Let him live on in your memory Alf. Your father truly was part of the greatest generation. May he rest in peace.

I thought I posted this, but must have closed the window before it "took". Dad had some art work in the house but this was the only picture in his office. While he was in the Air Corps, not the Cavalry, he really liked Jeeps and 1911s. A tribute to Bill Mauldin.

With apologies to the Smithsonian for ripping off their copyright.

I have a book of Bill Mauldin cartoons and IIRC that's the picture on the front cover.
