And they, (Safeway), put a tracking device in their car too boot!
"The court documents said that store surveillance cameras showed Remington involved in 103 thefts between Nov. 19 and Jan. 14, and that Evans was present in more than half of those incidents."
$5,000,000.00 divided by 103 thefts = $48,543.68 per theft!
"Safeway security officer Trent Drucker estimates that Remington stole $400,000 a year in merchandise over several years, totaling $5 million over the span of thefts."
Even if you go with this scenario, $400,000 a year = $7,692.00 a week! That's a lot of razor blades, pot roasts, and toilet paper! Bill T.

What the hell were they waiting for to arrest them? Nov to Jan? ??? Really? ON CAMERA!
The probable cause affidavit showed that Safeway began formally tracking the pair last November after suspicions surfaced they had been shoplifting.

I always hate a thief.

That is retail price. Street price would not be nearly that much. Only enough to keep them in meth, not blow...

Lets assume he stole only fillet mignion and high end wine. That's still at lot to fit in the trunk. I honestly doubt I could steal that much if I could use a cart. As Bill said, that's north of $7k per week. Lets assume I went twice a week. How the hell am I going to take $3500(retail) worth of groceries out of a safeway? Forget getting caught, I'd be hard pressed to do it if I were paying for it. This sounds off.

If your going to work that hard you might as well get a freaking job.

A real job would mean paying taxes and losing that check endorsed by good ol' Uncle Sam.

You would think if they were stealing that many groceries they would at least be fat! ??? Bill T.

But it would take a lot less effort.
103 incidents over 57 days, covering the 3 biggest holidays of the year ? If they got a job, even with overtime, they would have had more time off

The $5 Mil was stolen over several years.
The 103 thefts were only over a 3 months.
So that is 34 thefts a month, 408 a year.
$5 Mil by $400,000 gives 12.4 years, or 5100 thefts
The per theft amount at that rate is just $980 per theft
Still not an easy job but doable.

They should still at least have gained some weight! Bill T.

They didn't steal food, they stole razors and rogaine and makeup. Stuff that would be easy to get a grand worth concealed.
