When the hell are we going to stop these animals once and for all? This is sheer lunacy. And let me guess, Hussein is "Outraged"! Bill T.

I do have to say that these people we no doubt retired and wealthy. What the hell were they doing sailing around that area? The planet is covered by 3/5ths water. Couldn't they find a better, safer place to sail?

As I saw the reports last night I feared this was the way it would end. With them heading for land and a warship tailing them. You knew that the Navy had to try something or lose the pirates and hostages, and you knew the pirates were thinking the same.
The owners were, and had been for several years, using the yacht to distribute Bibles around the world. Sad but fitting that a good couple would lose their lives spreading the Good News.
Billt, we were typing at the same time. I hope this answers your question.

Sadly, yes. That really isn't the best place in the world to try and spread Christianity. Bill T.

TW may know more when he posts.
I was going to post it in the Pirate thread where the incident was first mentioned, but Bill beat me to it.

Fox is reporting that the Navy ship WATCHED as the pirates boarded the yacht, but because of our asinine ROE were not allowed to intervene. >:(

And THAT should pi$$-off every freedom loving American. When will we get our collective heads out of our collective butts and recognize that vermin need to be eliminated. Period.

Looks like they did kill a couple of them.
"The U.S. forces killed two pirates in the course of clearing the vessel - one with a handgun and one in a close-combat knife fight."

I was just reading the AP story and it looks like four dead pirates: Two in the attack and two for some reason earlier.
From what I saw and read yesterday (Monday) it sounded like the Navy saw it happen, but were too far away to intervene with the hijacking.
My hopes, but I'm not holding my breath, are that these thirteen are not breathing when they reach port >:(

I think the Russians are on the right track.
"A group of Somali pirates captured by the Russian navy in the Gulf of Aden and then set free in a boat are most probably dead after failing to reach the shore, a Russian defence source said Tuesday.
Reports have said that after their release the Russian navy put the pirates in a boat some 300 nautical miles offshore, removing all weaponry and navigational equipment from the vessel."

They need to kill ALL OF THEM, ALL OF THE TIME, EVERY TIME! The list of people we need to kill is getting entirely too long! Bill T.

Been wondering about the two pirates who where killed before the shooting started.
Perhaps the hostages had managed to take down the two of them?
That might also explain why the hostages were shot.
Can't believe the pirates would shoot the hostages because they had decided to surrender and thought it would help their situation.
As was observed, these guys aren't really acting out of political or religious motives, so they had no statement to make with the killings.
-
Solus,
The reports I have read state it appears that they had been dead for "a period of time." They even hint at disagreement among the pirates themselves. It did not sound like it was in the time frame of the hostages being shot or the capture.

Hanging from the fantail would be good, since we don't seem to build ships with yardarms. Now that would be a picture!!! Maybe one of those "inspirational" posters with the words PWNED in big bold letters.

The seagoing missionaries made a tragic blunder. They left the relative safety of a communal group of fellow boaters. Look,..... spreading the "Word" is not anything I'll object to, however, common sense should have raised a myriad of red flags when it was decided to leave the convoy, and "just sail in pirate infested waters, toward Somalia unescorted and alone."
God provided us with many things, including free will AND not being stupid if we can avoid it. I don't want to sound cold, but this was a bad move in a bad part of the ocean.

American Forces Press Service adds details from a press briefing by Navy Vice Admiral Mark I. Fox:
"At 8 a.m. this morning ... a rocket-propelled grenade was fired by the pirates from the Quest toward the Sterett," Fox said. "Immediately thereafter, gunfire erupted from inside the cabin of the Quest. Several pirates appeared on the deck of the Quest and moved up to the bow with their hands in the air in surrender."
U.S. special operations forces closed in on the Quest in small boats and boarded the yacht. "They discovered that all four hostages had been shot by their captors," Fox said. The service members took immediate steps to provide medical care, but the four Americans died of their wounds. The boarding party also found two dead pirates aboard the vessel.
The special operations forces did not fire weapons during the boarding, Fox said.
"While clearing the vessel, two additional pirates were killed," the admiral said. "The remaining 15 suspected pirates are in U.S. custody."
Fox said two additional pirates were killed as the special operators cleared the boat. One was killed with a pistol, the other in a knife fight, the admiral said. There were no casualties to service members or damage to Navy ships. The Navy and the FBI are investigating the incident.

Very sad Americans were killed, by killers. Perhaps a little Russian diplomacy would be a better deterrent.
-
Of course "Russian diplomacy" is more effective. But the over educated striped pant's faggots in DC don't have guts enough for it. Nor does most of the American public.
It would take me or any other street thug about 2 weeks to end all anti American terrorism.
