I think this post is gonna create a few drool pools on keyboards.

Oh, and thanks Haz for the link....another thing I probably can't do for a while but....ya never know!

Still eying a lever gun someday soon....there's just something about the lumber and blued receiver and barrel.  I can play with Mikes (SIL) toys all I want but I'm still the nostalgic one for the older firearms and reproductions.

Those are some nice choices. I have to add the Coonan to my list. I didn't know they were making them again.

I'll have to try to remember to check them out at the NRA show.

Right, because that 1000 yard range will get upgraded to 1600 and you'll be able to feed an even more exotic caliber? I mean for god's sake, when you stop needing a spotter, and start needing a forward observer, enough already. ;D

This gun thing is a pain in the butt.  Every time I think I've got enough, I go back and refer to my wish list and it doesn't seem to get any smaller.  Someone keeps adding to the list.

•   Nighthawk or Volkmann 1911, .45 ACP

Maybe this one?  I think it'd be cool to get one and have it converted to .45acp.

BAC, 45 ACP is a decent round, and its as common as dirt. But would it still be able to use the rimmed round ?  45Colt has the advantage of being quite a bit more potent when loaded with smokeless powder, and if you run short of smokeless you can reload with black powder and still get decent performance.
I will grant you that 45 ACP in a revolver makes speed loaders unnecessary because of the clips

They must have started making them again semi-recently.  A few years back when I was looking a Redhawk in .45 was a little rare and I THINK 5.5 was as short as they got.

Only thing I don't like about the 4 is the rubber grip.

The grip should be easy to fix yeah? I mean its a standard grip frame and if you just want wood it shouldn't be too hard to find one. I agree the rubber is ugly. I like it on .357 and .44 mag for recoil, but its overkill on the .45s. Here's a thought. Anyone one the board good with wood (paging TAB)? A few members offered some nice holsters. I bet there would be a market for grips if you are the type that just likes this sort of project.

That's the one!

FQ - for what it's worth, the .45 Colt can be loaded pretty darn close to the .44 Mag.  I have some handloads for my Blackhawk that will make your teeth rattle...DEFINITELY NOT overkill.

I like the rubber grips for the comfort in my hand, I never noticed any real difference in recoil. I have Pachmyers on all my pistols.

This place does moonclip conversions and they state ".45 LC cylinders can be cut to shoot both ACP and LC".  It seems like a nice solution, as .45 acp is a lot more affordable and available than .45 Colt (notice I didn't say long colt).

http://www.pinnacle-guns.com/revolver.asp (http://www.pinnacle-guns.com/revolver.asp)

Incidentally, I have never shot a .45 Colt revolver, so if anyone has one they would like to loan me for a year or two to advance my firearms education, I'd even let you buy the ammunition.   ;D  Just a thought.

You will be surprised how mild a .45 Colt feels to shoot. Especially in a heavy gun like the Redhawk.  Doesn't really recoil at all.  Now IF ya 'load to capacity' for the Redhawk you have a real THUMPER!  I get my loads from a commercial reloader and have them done to around 1000fps for a 250 grain SJHP.  Should be  enough to make a BG regret his decision if it comes to that. ;)  Even then it is still not enough recoil to think about.  I have had him load some FMJ for hogs, 300 grain at around 1200 fps.  THOSE you will notice. ;D  (so will every one else on the range!)

I don't want to get too greedy or exotic.  Most aren't too expensive, but my budget is non-existent at the moment.

Short list:
Nice AR
Glock 20

A little farther down the list:
Benelli Super Black Eagle
S&W 460 revolver
.357 revolver
.357 lever action
Bolt action .308

Hmm.  I wonder if my insurance agent would spring for a second safe.  It's be cheaper than replacement cost of those that don't fit in the 1st safe.

Its a deal too. I'd look at it. Hell, mine is always negotiable, but I'm not going to compete with Haz's price.
As for my wish list gun, I just got a new one with my new American Rifleman. Wichester is making their Safari Grade model 700s in the pre-64 design again. I have wanted one in .375 since I was a kid and started reading about African hunting. Do I need one, or am I likely to buy one, no, but it is a wish list. ;)

I noticed that as soon as you posted it.  It's a nice looking rifle, but I have no budget for it right now.  Life's hard as indentured servant.  I would say slave, but they do pay me a little.

If Marlin made that model in .458 Casull it would be the perfect lever gun. Pair that with a Redhawk Alaskan and you would have .45 Colt for sane applications and a  .458 Casull for serious bear issues. I'd sure buy a set were the money fairy to visit. Montana, here I come. ;D

Thanks...those are the odds and ends in the collection that don't fit any other profile.  Need to get a better way to categorize them.

I was just looking at my list and I can't believe I left off this one...  It is my grail gun.

•   Colt Python, 4” blued, .357 Mag

I have a 6" stainless King Cobra which is OK, but I have such a jones for a Python.  Buddy of mine in high school shot his dad's 4" Python a lot and I loved it when I got a chance.  Something about that 4" model...just balanced perfectly along with the deep rich bluing and the trigger like butta'.  Either that or maybe it is just nostalgia.

I owned one once. My first "real pistol" after I turned 21. Like a fool, I traded it in on a new Glock because I panicked at the AWB. :-[ :'( Thing is, the gun is all of that. I've shot a lot of handguns over the years. Hell, I've shot a lot of guns, including some very high end shotguns. I've never shot anything better. If you can afford to buy what used to be a $500 pistol at three times that, you are getting your money's worth. I'm not a Colt fan boy, its just that that revolver was like glass. Big as a tank, but the trigger, the action, the blueing, it was amazing. Buy one if you can and have zero regrets.
