Sure, we get that same sort of extended leave here...
Only, we don't actually get paid...
And we have a different name for it...
We call it unemployment... :P

Nothing set as a standard.
Some companies do offer such plans, or they did in better economic times.
Generally, in a professional position at a company, you will start with one or two weeks (5 day weeks) vacation and after a bit of service (varies with the company) you might get an additional day per additional year of service or an additional week after a longer service period, generally 5 years.
It all varies with the company and what you negotiate when you sign on.
There is some philosophy or 'work ethic' going on here that reasons that if they can do without you for an extended period, then they can do without you period, so often vacation goes unused.

Nope, but I do have a month of vacation that I don't have time to take, nor do I want to, I like working. Hell, it'd be real nice if someone would write me a check for that time though...

2 weeks paid vacation, a few sick/personal days thrown in....until you hit 20 years. Than 4 weeks paid vacation.
If you request a "Leave Of Absence" you'll get it,...unpaid, and NO guarantee your job will be there when you get back.
As I posted, if you Aussie's had different gun laws, I would have moved there during Clinton's admin,.... ;)

I don't know what you guys are complaining about... I get 3 months vacation for every 3 months I work. beat that! ;D
vacation pay is just part of our regular pay given to us at the end of a trip, but called vacation pay to cornhole us out of pension days.
