I'm considering supplementing, maybe replacing, my hurts to much to shoot M&P 340 with the Taurus PT 709 slim. My gun guy had some kahrs and while I really liked my PM9 it just jammed to much and was hard to hit anything with. To get another shot at it would require me selling my smith up front and then throwing some more money in b/c Kahrs are expensive. The Ruger LC1 appeals to me but the wait time on that is long enough to make me not want it anymore.
No other guns out there fit the delicate balance of being big enough to shoot an effective gun but still being a gun small and light enough to fit in a pocket.
All negative past Tuarus problems in the past not with standing, the new Tuarus that I've seen are great quality, anyone know of anyone successfully carring the PT709?

The mixed reviews on Taurus' own forum has scared me off.

I had a 709 slim had to send it back because it was shooting too low. Got it back and was shooting point on aim. I picked up a SR9C and sold the 709 slim.. SR9C is awesome.. I missed the slimness of the 709 slim and was intrigued by the Kahr CW9. I got the Kahr and have to say I like it 100% more than the 709. It fits my hand better and in my opinion has a much better trigger. I did like the re-strike of the 709. Both guns fired flawlessly..I put 200+ rounds through the Kahr last Sunday. There is no way I would have done that with the 709..Kahr hands down is my choice!

Found out that my Dad just picked up a PT709 slim, I will have to get his opinion on it once he has had it for a couple of weeks and taken it to the range.

I would like to get another Kahr but the price is restrictive. I would love to find a used P9 or PM9 and save some serious coin plus know I'm getting one w/o any kinks.

I've been considering a "pocket" 9 purchase this year (along with others), and the 709 is on the acceptable price range list. I own several Taurus products and have only had an issue with one of them (revolver lost timing). If you go to taurusarmed.net and check out the complaints section you can get an idea of some of the problems associated with the 709. Not to be be too critical, but a lot of them sound like operator error. A couple of other things I've noticed is that a lot of the FTF and FTE problems are associated with the mags, and a lot of the problems with the 709 don't exist in the 740. The mechanism itself may work better with the larger caliber.

JRT6,
Haven't had the opportunity to try the PT709 but question I have is what ammo are you firing out of your M&P 340? (Specials or Mags and what bullet weight?) And have you tried any other grips? Another couple of suggestions would be for Walthers PPS or KelTec P9.

I have some pretty signfiicant elbow and wrist arthritis and the accompaning nerve issues so even blazer makes my arms go numb with pain.
Police price on the Kahr CW9 is under $400- delivered but no one has them in stock and now that my gov'nor has gutted my union contract money is a really big issue right now.

That's what I read too. i really don't want to be sending a gun on a "florida vacation" to get it to work right.
