Title: Florida Open Carry article - needs support!
Post by: Hazcat on March 16, 2011, 07:54:26 PM
This article in the St Petersburg Times (AKA Pravda West) brings up all of the typical bogey man arguments.  The Sheriffs are against it.

PLEASE go there and sign up to comment.

They didn't miss a single scary thought in that one.  Not to mention exaggerating how safe law enforcement are*.

*Apologies to any LE on here, but it is well known that as a whole  the average LE tends to lean toward the dangerous side of the safety scale.

Sheriffs across the Tampa Bay region say that the "accidental exposure" argument is ludicrous.

They're worried that criminals might steal exposed weapons and possibly use them against gun owners.

A visible weapon could provoke crimes of opportunity, and concealed weapon permit holders —- unlike deputies — don't have to pass physical fitness tests, said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.

Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee envisions gun-slinging paradegoers, free to drink alcohol and openly display pistols.

Now picture Florida's beaches.

Pinellas County Sheriff Jim Coats sees no reason why, starting this July, visitors couldn't pack their own heat under the sun.

We already are.....

Seems like a bunch of Mights and Could's......I guess that's why over 40 states have a form of open carry.....The Wild West argument is worn itself out.

"40 Hours" of Firearms training to be a Deputy,....????? Gee,...maybe "40" hours of training that lawful citizens are NOT the problem would help.

"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." --Thomas Jefferson

I think you did well for arguing with agenda driven idiots.
Notice the shots at "Tbaggers", and "those on the wrong (right) side".
The anti arguments ALL fall into one of Herman Cain's 3 categories,
Switching the subject, Ignoring the facts, and name calling.

ThomasCBogan:

At CPAC this year Herman Cain pointed out Democrats have only 3 tactics, I see all 3 being used here.
#1 Switch the subject, Posters have tried to make this about "The TEA Party" (a TAX reform group) and Conservatives in general. These people should be aware that the San Francisco ban on guns in public housing was over turned by a Gay rights group, Pink Pistols, The gun rights debate is not about Left/Right as the opponents would have you believe, It's about Civil rights.
Why do these people claim to love the 1st Amendment but hate the 2nd ?
#2Ignore the facts, They bring out the same old lame cliches, Concealed Carry will turn Fl into the "Wild West"! Hasn't happened in Fl, hasn't happened in the other 48 states that allow concealed carry.
Castle Doctrine ? It will turn every fender bender into the shoot out at the OK Corral ! That didn't happen either in 30 some odd states.
Do you just think Floridians are more violent than 28 other States ?
#3 Name calling, Tbaggers, etc.

The only ones who oppose this legislation are Sheriff's who see some of their power over your civil rights being eroded.

Darn 1000 letter limit, I had to make 2 posts !  ;D
