Title: A need to vent
Post by: Cancerman on March 06, 2008, 07:16:11 PM
I went today to renew my CCL wich expires the tenth of this month. I
had to sign a stack of releases for almost every hospital and mental
facility in the eastern part of the state, pay my seventy five dollars,
and wait an insufferable amount of time for my appointment.
I am told it is taking NINETY days to get re-aproval accomplished!

I went through all this when I applied for it in the first place. Had
I done anything for it to be re-voked they would have known imediately.
It would not need to be "discovered". So, after the tenth, I will no
longer be able to carry until the powers that be finish their
investigation. I think it is rediculous.

If you live in Brunswick County, NC, be for warned.

Must be a crime wave breaking out on the coast keeping'em busy. Do what you've got to do, althought I believe a copy of your renewal receipt would be legally sufficient to be current and active. I know who to ask and I'll get back to you with a name and opinion ASAP.

I was told by the deputy in charge of issuing the ccl's, that I would expire on the 11th and would remain so until they deemed me worthy again. Sucks dont' it.

When I first applied it took the total amount of time the law allowed, 100 days if memory serves, to get the permit.  When I renewed the first time it took two weeks.

I always send it in certified with a return receipt.  The last time I renewed I got the permit before I got the receipt.  Some good things for living in Florida.

NH it's 14 days MAX, 15 days and you have grounds for a law suit under state law.

Got a call back from my shootin' buddy at the AG's office here in Raleigh. Sorry to report that the authority does lapse even if you have paid the renewal fee already. Only exception is for military that are deployed. AG's office recommends renewing at least 90 days ahead of expiration. They crank'em out a lot faster here in Wake.

Don't believe what they 'told' you.  Look it up.  I bet you can find it online.

I was born and raised around the Wilson/Rocky Mount area of N.C. I lived there for 17 years until I joined the USAF. Back then you could carry a freakin bazooka on your shoulder and no-one said anything to you. It really sucks to hear you guys talk about how the laws suck so much now. I couldn't believe such an open state back then could turn in to what it is now. Sounds like the gun grabbing politicians were working hard when everyone else was asleep. It's happening all over America. People need to get active and pay attention to whom they are electing at the ground level. They need to get behind the politicians that support the Constitution and stand behind them in big numbers so the other politicians see they have good support and can't be bribed or bought off. That's the only way to fix things. Good strong non-compromising gun organizations like RMGO and NAGR are needed also. They don't make deals with politicians when it comes to Constitutional rights. Sorry to hear your guys have to go through this crap :(

Outlaw, you are right, NC has been a Democrat stronghold since before I moved here in '76 from Mississippi. The guys in charge were conservative Dems, but apparently, the northern flow (we call'em Yankees) coming in have reshaped the thinking toward a more "civilkized and sophisticated" society, where firearms are to be wielded by the help, when summoned. We do have some strong friends in the Attorney General's Office who write gun law opinions, but they are way to smart to get into State politics.
We have a good 2A candidate for Governor this time, Fred Smith, and he may get it.
