I've been getting the newsletter from Suarez International (http://www.suarezinternational.com/) for several months now and they seem to make a lot of sense. Certainly far different than we have always believed to be the correct way to train. His stance on the correct rifle to own (AK47) also seems to make sense.
Before I buy his CD's, I'd like to hear from this group.

I've trained with Gabe, the Force on Force class. I bought 3 of his DVDs, FoF, Close Range Gunfighting and Advanced Close Range Gunfighting. Recommended if you want to learn how to kill people.

Don, Interesting way to put it. I guess we need to learn to say that instead of trying to be politically correct, which of course we never will be no matter how we try.
Yes, I want to learn how to kill people.

finish that thought..."when necessary, while staying alive".

I carry a gun so I can kill people...those people who would attack me and do me harm. If one carries a gun, one must be able and WILLING to take the life of another human being. If not, one should re-think their position.
-
DW,
That is what I meant by 'when necessary'. We do not (IMO) need to learn to 'kill people' as we did in the military (ie hunt them down).
We need to kill people when necessary and be able to stay alive.

My understanding from watching and reading folks like Mas Ayoob is that when we carry we are not trying to kill people, we are trying to stop them. Apparently, or so I'm told, it makes a difference between walking free and going to jail yourself.
Anyone know of this?
I have some books on order from Cooper et al. to keep studying.

Correct Pathfinder. You never say you shot to kill the attacker. You say I shot to stop the attacker. However you did kill him...just in self-defense.

I get his newsletter too, and he makes a lot of sense.

Bringing up Suarez on a forum often prompts controversy, because of his past legal troubles (if you don't know, do a search, or better several, to get all sides -- don't want to go there here).
Stuff I've read by Suarez makes a lot of sense, even when he's challenging preconceptions. I've also seen a video of his training. It was impressive. He comes across as a lucid, serious minded instructor, highly skilled in his art.

I like his newsletters. We pass them around at work. I looked, briefly, for negatives and didn't really see anything negative to me. Maybe someone can pass something my way....but I still like his newsletters. I would assume, however, Jim Zumbo types would not be in Gabe's camp....they have their head in the sand (guess what's showing...gee how I like to steal that line) but then I don't watch or listen to Jim Zumbo anymore either.
I train to learn how to legally react to a situation. I just want to protect my family and myself from imminent danger...if the byproduct of felon repellant is death it's the byproduct of training for a concealed carry permit when out of the house.

Gabe, controversy? Yes, when you teach outside the box, you'll get that.
Here is a post from Gabe at warriortalk discussing his past http://www.warriortalk.com/showthrea...ht=gabes+story.
I have a biased opinion of Gabe because I've affiliated myself with him this year to teach classes in Ohio. I would not have signed on if I felt there was an issue. I find Gabe and the people around him to be stand up people.
As far as training, it's great stuff. No, you will not stand there in a perfect stance and shoot two to the chest and one to the head. Check out his force on force stuff, now that's realistic training.
On a side note, I'm really enjoying participating here, Michael is supplying some great info and venues and the collective knowledge here is very cool.

I think Gabe has a good program and some of the best trainers around. If you want to learn how to fight there is no better place. Some just as good ,but no better, especially with the AK platform. That being said, Im banned from his forum. Just cant stomach the constant drooling and feet licking from some members and I let it be known. :o

John,
I really hate to sound stupid, BUT, your link didn't work so I went to warriortalk.com to see if I could find it myself. Couldn't get anywhere, not into the forums, nowhere, must be missing something.

Did you host the FoF class last year in Pierpoint?
-
Unique,
Nope, stupidity on my part! Maybe try this link http://www.warriortalk.com/showthread.php?t=5797
Don,
You probably met John Bailey, he hosted the classes. I'm working with John at his range. I was there for the Close range class and had to leave before force on force to teach a CCW class.
