Congratulations to the Illinois State Rifle Association and ICarry for what looks to have been a successful IGOLD Day.

Great videos!

My only correction, complaint, rant, etc. would be that need to quit demanding "concealed carry."  We need to demand CARRY!

I feel it is best to conceal when you carry, but the law should allow open carry.  Legal open carry does away with legal ramifications if someone sees your gun or "senses your gun.

I was unable to go, but had several Friends that went. All I talked to said that the crowd was the biggest they had seen at IGOLD. They also said there were more politicians there than ever before. Hopefully this is the year, but then again I'm a cub fan ;). This year it has the best chance it has ever had of passing. It still has some problems, going through your local sheriff, must be concealed, etc. But it's a start. Hopefully we will get it in, then make some changes in the next couple years. I personally know one of the sponsors and he knows it's not the best bill. He says "get it passed, then we can tweak it.

I knew you were a man of uncommon good sense

I remember being in Springfield for Lobby Day Back in the mid 90's - 100 people was a good turnout

Or, when you swing for the fence, you may get a single. When you swing for a single, you get an out. Both are true. The relevant point is timing. Do you realize the other guy has the momentum and propose a copromise, or do you realize that you have the momentum and make him propose the compromise? Either way, you settle. The question is, on who's terms?

when you swing for the fence you will strike out.

Then you strike out, because you weren't ready to be at the plate in the first place.  Let them have concealed in there and all you need is a few people arrested for someone finding out they were armed and you have built their case for never allowing open carry.

Go big or go home!

This is the text from the bill about the firearm being concealed. It give latitude for accidental uncovering of the firearm.

"Concealed firearm" means a handgun carried on or about a
person completely or mostly concealed from view of the public,
or carried in a vehicle in such a way as it is concealed from
 view of the public

Who determines what is "mostly concealed?"  What protects the carrier when he unholsters in the parking lot and places the gun in a holster mounted in the car?  Oooops, a holster mounted in the vehicle is no longer allowed.

In Minnesota we had an issue this winter of a public official that was seen on a parking lot security camera when he stepped from his car.  He had his gun holstered on his belt, and security spotted it as he was putting on his jacket.  He has a permit, and Minnesota is a CARRY state, but they still took his gun from him for investigation.  Where would he be if this had been a conceal carry state?

Over recent years of jumping through the hoops have planted me firmly in the camp of "The Second Amendment IS my carry permit!"

M58, that's just the thing, "Mostly concealed" leaves wiggle room to argue that if it prints, or shows for any other reason you are not brandishing, as it is still mostly concealed.

Exactly why I am so strong on this.  Remember my waitress experience where I was nailed because she touched me and felt the gun that was fully concealed?

I still think you should have made a sexual harassment, or assault complaint.
If she kept her hands to herself she never would have known.

Currently I carry legally through the coroners office that I work at part time. The law doesn't say it has to be concealed, but most of the time thats the way I carry. Our dept. policy is that you have to have on your badge when armed, either a shirt with proper insignia or actual badge. I use a clip on badge holder on the belt. It also must be within 3 inches of the firearm(not sure how they came up with the distance). Only once in 8 years has any one ever noticed. It was at a toy store, and I was getting something from the top shelf without thinking. The guy next to me started laughing, and I gave him a funny look. about that time my wife says "honey, pull you jacket down". I was kind of embarrassed. He introduced himself as a local policeman. Then he said "don't worry, it won't be the last time you do it. Shit happens." we talked a few minutes and that was that. If concealed carry passes you can bet some people will be looking to bust honest gun owners chops. Thats one reason they put the "mostly concealed" wording in.
