Title: Grand fathered states for pre ban AR's
Post by: m25operator on March 23, 2011, 05:17:29 PM
Does anyone have a list of states that allow pre-ban lower receivers ? I have 1 or 2 I am considering selling.

I was not aware that the "ban" had any thing to do with receivers, I thought it was just features of the completed gun.

Are there states that don't allow pre-ban receivers? If they were allowed before the ban wouldn't they be allowed during and after the ban?

Mass continued the ban after it elapsed thanks to Mit....

It is legal if it was registered in the state prior to the original AWB but can't be brought in legally after the fact.  I don't think it included receivers either but I don't live there anymore so I don't much care...

Thanks, Tim. I thought that was a Federal Law that the states couldn't mess with. Guess I forgot about NEW ENGLAND where they still have the royals and the peasants. Sometimes it's nice to live where there is no civilization.

Benny,

What are the attributes of a pre-ban lower receiver that would be of concern?

I believe that with a "pre-Ban" receiver you can build it will all the "unacceptable" items like a flash hider, bayonet lug pistol grip hi-cap mags etc. etc. Unless you live in NY in which case you're out of luck

As I understand it, some states, New Jersey for instance, grand fathered pre-ban guns ( pre 1994 )  and that these guns can still be bought or the receivers can be bought and converted to a complete rifle. This is not true where the guns had to be registered with the state, like CA.
