Title: Accessory question * update w/another question
Post by: red364 on March 26, 2011, 04:22:02 PM
I've been looking at laser sights for  a Ruger I have. I like the LaserMax Genesis rechargeable green one, but I can't really find any info or reviews on it. Does anyone have any info on them?

Lasermax are good, albeit pricey. The price for Crimson Trace has come down to earth in some cases,...however, be aware of the activation "button".

CT's have a natural grip activation, while Lasermax has come close. It is an aftermarket modified guide rod.  There is also Viridian.

The reviews are positive, my co-worker has CT's on his M+P .40, and Lasermax in his "G" gun. I like the CT's better, however, the Lasermax has its' act together, I would just test drive them all first.

Seems a wee bit bulky, in the Genesis config. But the guide rod stuff is very good.

Good shooting.

TW, you should have made take at least one more snarky post.
After all, this is the villain who goes to the MOTIVATIONAL poster thread and posts pictures from Ripley's "That's incredibly UGLY".
She needs to pay for the torment she has caused our eyes.  ;D

Which Ruger? Pistol or revolver?

I really like CT grips, I have them on my ppks, but they won't work this time. It's a MK II and I already have good grips   :)

Go ahead and punish.....I can take it  I like it!  As long as there's an answer or two    ;D

I don't have any of these.  I have looked at the Crimson Trace several times - both with the guna and as an add on.  The problem I have is with my meat hooks my grip misses the button on a natural grip.  I need to grip the gun and then squirm around until the laser comes on.

If you have "normal" hands I'm sure it is a good product, but I can't make it do what it needs to do for its intended purpose  :'(

I have some suggestions for Crimson Trace, but like most companies I don't think they care much about my thoughts.

LaserLyte makes a rear sight laser with a model for the Ruger....it might work for you.

The rear sight might remind you of Mickey Mouse, but is looks like it will work well with that Ruger.

If they made it in an XS version, I'd consider it for my carry guns.

For ease of operation I would recommend Crimson Trace - big hands not withstanding.  They are the easiest to operate.  However, I have had personal experience that on a very bright day with the sun to my back the red laser washed out and was useless.  Now some will say that you don't need a laser on a bright day and that probably is true.  I was trying to sight in my CT laser on a outdoor range day.

If you are considering a rail mounted system you might consider Viridian (http://www.viridiangreenlaser.com/).  They make both a laser only and a laser/light combination.  They use green lasers which are very bright and battery use seems to be OK.  One of their laser/light models run about $320 and they are making holsters for many guns so the rail mounted units will fit properly.

I think you are compensating quite nicely.
