I picked up a pocket 9 this week, a Taurus PT709 Slim. I had been looking at getting a Ruger LC9, but they're scarer than hen's teeth around here. The only place that had them was selling them for $100 over list price. The Slim came up at far lower (the guy needed the cash) than the LGS prices so I got it. I took it to the range this morning and put about 150 rounds through it. Recoil was fairly mild for the size pistol and after experimenting with grip placement, I finally started puting lead downrange. With a mix of reloads, Winchester SXT, and Hornady XTP ammo I had NO malfunctions of any kind. The pistol has an adjustable rear sight, but I didn't have a small screwdriver to make adjustments when the first shots where low. I just compensated my aim point and kept shooting. It did group better than I thought it would, and as I said, recoil was fairly mild for a small 9mm. I think that can be accredited to the Taurus designed recoil spring assembly. Recoil on my PT 145 is also very mild.
The picture is of my 10 yard target. I also fired at 15 yards, but the grouping wasn't as good. What the hell, I didn't buy it as a target pistol.

I live in Missouri City (by the way I am heading out to ASC tomorrow) and know what you mean about trying to find a LC9 to look at. I saw Carter Country had them for $429 but I don't want to pay that for a pocket pistol. Like you I am trying to decide between the PT-709 or 740 slim and a Kel-tec PF9. It seems like your pistol follows most other experiences reported that the 709 shoots low. Most others also state that it shoots to the left as well. Keep us updated as you put more rounds through it. I am interested to hear your opinions of it as you use it.

No snark intended here CJ, but did you shoot some targets at 10 feet, not just 10 yards? As you said, its a pocket pistol, not a target gun. I can live with low and outside in the unlikely event I'm shooting at 15 yards, but at across the room distances I'd like it to hit pretty close to point of aim. Just curious.

At ASC, you can shoot pistols at 7, 10, 15, 25, or 50 yards. No 10 feet, so it is true that he is probably shooting at 10 yards.

10 and 15 yards. I was going to shoot the 709 at 7 yards ( I had several pistols with me) but there were no open slots.
