The Bitter Taste Of War was returned to the enemy, by the brave 16 planes and their fight crews, of which my Grandfather was an underaged Bosun's Mate on the USS Hornet,....from Sapulpa, OK.
A small man of stature, but a pit bull of service,. James Doolittle, brought a can of whoop ass back to the Imperial Empire's Shores,.....just to let them know.....
"we're comin'",......
Some were killed in action, some were captured.....But those famous "30 seconds over Tokyo",....let them know......
Yes indeed,....a sleeping giant has been awakened. From Doolittle himself.
Somehow, I wish we would politically, and nationally, have the same fortitude.
God Bless Them, three Silver Goblets, were turned over this year, as the the Doolittle Raiders, are passing away.

My Grandfather was just another "squib" on the boat that ferried the Doolittle Raiders,,....however, he was part of a secret mission that dealt a little retribution and reckoning to the Imperial Empire....of which a pissed off Nation, and men of great courage and sacrifice volunteered.
Doolittle, handtied the token medallions of the Japanese diplomats to the fins of the bombs that were "given" back 4 months after Pearl Harbor.
Just his way of being polite.,.... ;)
They were all men that possessed what more of this country could use on the home front.
Character, Accountability, Honor, Love Of God And Country, and Duty.

FIFY. A squib is like a Q-tip. A SQUID (also known as a swabby) is a proud sailor in the USN. E-1 through E-6, or Seaman Apprentice through Petty Officer First Class, we wore the Dixie Cups, and the bell-bottom trousers with 13 buttons representing the 13 original colonies (and giving you 13 chances to change your mind).

Actually while it is the most famous, Bombing Tokyo was not even close to being Gen Doolittle's biggest achievement.
While it effected the morale of the US (for the better,) and Japan (a wake up call) it accomplished nothing significant militarily.
Gen, Jimmy's greatest feats were in Air racing during the 30's (Bendix trophy, as well as flying the Gee Bee racer ) and most importantly his pioneering work in instrument flying.
