I realize that when the model 94 was discontinued, it was just so the manufacturing could be outsourced. The model 70 came back to a new plant in a right to work state and a limited edition 94, made in japan, made an appearence last year. But the two new models are to be regular production models (made in Japan?) and I just don't get the prices.

Why would you pay $1200 for a Winchester 94 short rifle/carbine, when there are still Marlins, Mossbergs, and Rossi's, for less than $500, still on the open market?

Because you're a jackass? I mean, its not even a Winchester, its a Japanese copy. I owned and sold a pre-1964 model 94. It was a good brush gun for hog hunting and would (literally) bring the bacon home at 50-75 yards, but it wasn't anything to write home about, and damn sure not worth $1200. People get attached to labels and don't pay attention to what's underneath. Its why fools vote straight GOP or Dem tickets. It seems the same thing here. The Model 94 is a nice $500 carbine if you hunt inside of 100 yards. Nothing more, nothing less. If you get hung up on the Winchester name and pay twice what a nice Marlin would cost you you get what you deserve. Just sayin'. ::)

You won't be paying $1,200.00. That is MSRP. The street price on these guns will be much less. If they are not competitive, they won't sell. They will drop the price until they do. Also don't be surprised if the quality on these guns is much higher than the ones made in New Haven. Browning's are made in Japan, and have been for years. Few will argue that the Browning Citori is one of the best O/U shotguns in it's class. Bill T.

Marlin 1894SBL (.44 mag) or 1894CSBL (.357 mag). Could replace the M1 Carbine in the bedroom closet.

As an example of what I'm talking about, the MSRP of that Marlin Stainless 1894 SBL is $1,061.50. Of course they will cross the counter at nowhere near that, much like the new Winchester Model 94's. Bill T.

Now that is a nice rifle posted BAC. The $1,000 plus prices on that type of rifle is ridiculous in my opinion. But if the consumer pays than it justifies the astronomical price. Too many other toys worth buying at that price.

If you want a realistic street price on some of these guns, along with the MSRP, go to www.galleryofguns.com Find some dealers in your area from their website that deal with them. That way you can get a better idea of what these weapons will actually be selling for. A good example were the 2 Browning 75th Anniversary Hi-Powers I bought a few weeks back. The MSRP on both guns was over $1,000.00. The actual selling price was under $780.00. Many show an even greater savings percentage than that. Bill T.

I saw a price of $809 at one online shop. Sounds pretty reasonable for something sooooo pretty (IMO).

Most of the grey, Laminated stock, Stainless Steel, XLR Marlins I've seen at Cabela's and elsewhere run right around that range. Bill T.

That's really cool. I like the pistol grip stock and big (but not huge) loop lever on the Marlin, though. Just...need...job...

It does look a bit sily, but I have say that if I ever get another lever action, it will have an eotech on it faster than you can say "dead pig". I think even Colonel Cooper would approve. ;)

Just as a follow up, on the used firearms market, $300 to $400 Winchester 30-30s are now showing up at $600 to $800. :(

I just can't get interested in Japchesters. Sorry but some things need to be American-made. What a crying shame the last real 94's were discontinued when they were. Several new and highly desirable variants were cataloged right before the bean counters pulled the plug. I really wanted one of the takedowns.
