Rep. Tony Cornish is trying to pass a Bill that has four important firearm items:
1. Recognize all carry permits from other states in an attempt to get Minnesota's recognized by more;
2. Castle doctrine additions and clarifications;
3. Permit to aquiire good for five years rather than annual;
4. And, damn I forgot :'(
Link at top takes you to the Bill from the State site.
Hearings at the Capitol tomorrow (Thursday). I would love to be there, but I spent most of yesterday there on another issue and need to make some money or file bankruptcy papers ... not sure which. I did go to Rep. Cornish's office and express my thanks. His aide kept asking if I was a constituent - No I am not, but I am the next district over. I told her again I appreciated what he was doing, and offered support in his efforts.
I hope this flies!

Bill is moving forward! It passed in the House committee with a vote of 17-10.
The only thing the paper is focusing on is that someone might get killed. The best quote of the day from the anitis is
Dennis Flaherty, representing the officers' association, said his members routinely enter a person's home or property and could confront an armed owner. "It creates a scenario when you're going to have one of our officers hurt, or, God forbid, killed," he said.
A better one from Rep. Cornish is
Dismissing the law enforcement groups' objections, Cornish noted that it also opposed the state's concealed-carry law several years ago. "They were united there and they were wrong -- they're united here and they're wrong," he said.
And the tip of the day from The Best Defense goes to this one
DFLers tried to muster some opposition on Thursday, but to little avail. DFL Rep. Joe Mullery, of Minneapolis, called the bill "kind of appalling." He recalled that he once checked into a hotel and entered a room he thought was his, only to find a couple sleeping there. "Under this bill, they can shoot me. ... I'm dead."

So under current Minnesota law homeowners are forbidden to have a gun in their own home? Asshats.

Helpful hint: Leave the hotel bar before reaching the point where you stumble into the wrong room. And as far as "I'm dead"......retroactive abortion, the DFL should be creaming all over themselves about that!!

Rep. Tony Cornish is Chief of Police in Lake Crystal. His son is a State Trooper that I have had the pleasure of meeting on the roadside - He helped me after my little NASCAR incident ;) last summer near LeSeuer.
They are good people, and common sense law enforcement people.
