Marshal'ette, I could not agree more! Sorry about the length, but I was on a roll.
We Americans are so concerned with political correctness and the perception that someone may be "offended" by something we believe, they (we) cower in our little cubicles and only give voice to "correct thought." We are presently witnessing a political campaign where one is not allowed to criticize the record (or lack of record) of a particular candidate just because of the incidental color of his skin. An articulate, well spoken and educated man who is running for President of the United States, who has yet to demonstrate his ability to govern. His supporters can not name a single accomplishment of his in the US Senate. This man has demonstrated his contempt for our country, while reaping the blessings of his freedom and opportunity this nation has given him. But to criticize that, is racist. If you disagree with a black about an issue, any issue, you are branded a racist. Once you allow that label to be attached to you, you are from that point forward, on defense. When someone labels you a racist, bigot, or homophobe, try proving you are not! Try disproving a negative.
Geraldine Ferraro was forced to resign Wednesday from the Clinton campaign, because she commented that Barack Obama’s race is a decisive factor in his popularity. Hillary Clinton is so consumed by political correctness she is willing to get rid of a major female political figure who dared speak the truth. Many of Obama's strongest supporters constantly remind us that Obama is the first serious "African-American" to seek the presidency. They don't tout his record, they tout his race. Hillary Clinton is so obsessed with political correctness and so concerned that a racist label may be attached to her campaign, she ignores the truth and stabs in the back someone who may be able to help her reach her goals.
Political correctness is nothing more than thought control. We are not "allowed" to use forbidden words, or express forbidden thoughts. This begins in the government run schools, where children are indoctrinated at an early age to "respect" other people's "self esteem." We can not express Judeo-Christian values, but must study Islam in the very schools which decry the mythical "separation of church and state." An eight year old who draws a picture of a soldier on a piece of notebook paper is suspended from school for violating the “zero tolerance” policy of firearms in the school. In some cases, children have been physically arrested and criminally charged for something that should more properly be taken care of with a lecture, or spanking in the vice principle’s office. A first grade boy was charged with sexual harassment and expelled from school for giving a teacher a hug. C'mon! First graders have no awareness of sex.
Older kids in high school and college are denied being exposed to training and educational opportunities offered by military service, because the local school board, or college president, disagrees with the military’s policy toward homosexuality. (Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell – a Clinton order.)
We are witnessing the evolution of the futuristic society described in the George Orwell novel, "1984." In that society (Oceania) we learn that bad is good, war is peace, right is wrong, love is hate, and truth are lies. Oceania, composed of the U.K., the Americas, Australia, New Zealand New Guinea and the southern half of Africa, is in a constant state of war with the other great powers of the world, Eurasia and Eastasia. It matters not that the enemy keeps changing and that victory is often snatched from the jaws of defeat by the glorious warriors in the military. The point is, an identifiable enemy who can be vilified and the population constantly whipped into a state of excited hate by the propaganda machine. This utopia celebrates Hate Week and has a daily Two Minute Hate at work, just to keep the masses on the proper edge.
We are witnessing the birth of the "Thought Police" who monitor our every move and hold us accountable for incorrect thoughts. I suggest anyone who has not read the book, get a copy and read it. Don't rent the movie, read the book. About the only thing Orwell got wrong, was the date.
Those who are pushing this political nonsense, have a larger agenda. They are social engineers who envision a utopian society where everyone is equal and where we all love and respect one another. Never mind that that sort of thing has never worked in the history of the world. Never mind that that goes against natural human behavior. But, if only “they” were in charge, people could be convinced to come around to their way of thinking. “They” of course, are the only enlightened ones who are qualified to be in charge.
This vision can never be achieved as long as some members of society are not willing to go along with the program. As long as there are trouble makers who want personal freedom and individuality, their lofty goals can not be realized. They must find a way to “control” the trouble makers and get them out of the way. But how can they do that when many of them have the means to defend themselves? They must find a way to take weapons away from those infidels (unbelievers) and isolate them, in order to avoid their corruption of the rest of society. To paraphrase the leader of a recent utopian society beset by social enemies, they must find a final solution to the freedom problem. Sooner or later, they will get around to weapons confiscation placing unbelievers in “re-education centers” for the benefit of the whole of society. Or at least they will try. I for one, will not go along with the program!
