The Beautiful and Talented Natalie MacMaster;
-
Natalie is an awesome fiddler and niece of the legendary Buddy Macmaster. I was blessed to see her live in Chicago many years ago in a VERY small venue - she was no more than 8-10 feet from me. She hints at it here, but she used to step dance as she played the fiddle! Real step dancing, not the ankle-friendly stuff Riverdance does. I reflexively leaned back a couple of times on her kicks, I thought I might connect with her feet, she was that close!
She arrived on the cusp of the post-Riverdance Celtic music wave, following along with the Rankins, Ashley MacIsaac (another incredible fiddler - ever see a rock band with bagpipes? A spoon player? ? ), Mary Jane Lamond (who taught herself Gaelic and sings it, and who stole the scene on Sleepy Maggie - originally an instrumental - away from Ashley MacIsaac, singling lyrics she wrote for the song), Tracey Dares, Great Big Sea and others.
You want GREAT music? Pick up anyone from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Absolutely Pathfinder, I've been a Celtic 'folkie' for 40 years, it is my fervent hope that one day I'll be able to visit the festival in Cape Breton if only for a couple of days - do they sell beer up there? :)

Ahhh, Bic... God certainly blessed the Irish. That was a DELIGHT!

Happy to spread a little cheer, there is much more to be had on YouTube - Natalie McMaster.

Scots damn ye! Call them Irish in Cape Breton and you'll be leaving in a box. ;) My college roomate took a summer to study the pipes and gaelic singing at a music school up there. I was always jealous of the experience. As far as whether they sell beer Bic? Well, I'd refer to my earlier comment, they'e Scots. They damn sure don't give it away. ;D

She's good! If you like her, I suggest you catch the girl who performes with "Celtic Woman"...another good looking young woman and terriffic fiddler. Singers aren't bad either. Got to see them in person and they were great!
