High School Students Accused Of Killing Chicken For Cookout
BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va. -- Two Brooke High School students are accused of killing a chicken outside of a vocational classroom with the intentions of eating it at a cookout, the superintendent said. What kind of evil monsters are we raising?
NEWS9 received an email about the incident Thursday night, and Superintendent Kathy Kidder confirmed it happened.
Two male students, a senior and a junior, were involved, Kidder said. She said they were disciplined immediately. She said the extent of the students' punishment won't be known until the school board finished its investigation. These little monsters should be forced to eat tofu for a month!
Kidder said the students had asked the principal if they could have a cookout earlier in the week and were told no. However, the students then went to the vocational director, who approved the cookout, unaware of the principal's decision.
Kidder said one of the students raises chickens at home and brought two live chickens to the school on Thursday. The students allegedly snuck out of class and cut the head off one chicken with a knife in a lawn outside of a vocational classroom, Kidder said. A teacher who was inside the classroom saw what happened and stopped the student before he slaughtered the second animal. Mercifully!
In a statement to school officials, the student said he intended on cooking it on a grill near the school. Evil little bastard
"We have a very large cooker on wheels located behind the building," Kidder said. "It has been used in the past for celebrations. The cooker is gone. It was removed yesterday."So this monster not only KILLED the innocent chicken, but wanted to eat its flesh--Sickening
Kidder said other students saw the incident. She went to the school immediately after she was notified.
"I thought it was appalling. I was very angry. When I first heard it, I was sickened by it," she said. "I know some people get their chicken in that manner, but not as a spectacle." Why didn't they just BUY a chicken at the market where no animals are harmed?
She said the incident is troubling and unfortunate for the hundreds of other students who attend the school. Because none of the other little snowflakes have any idea where their food comes from.
"This is two students out of 3,400 and unfortunately we have in our society people who want to make a news story out of everything," Kidder said.
The teacher of the class, whose name was not released, was not working on Friday pending the investigation, she said.
There were two knives involved. One was under repair in the classroom, and it was not clear where the other knife came from. And one of these monsters had two knives--no telling what sort of mayhem could have ensued.
Brooke County residents like Scott Gallagher were talking about the incident. Gallagher said, "I think it could have been done in a more private setting. I think there is a place for that. Everybody eats chicken, but not everybody sees the chicken slaughtered."
Gabriel Arlia, of Follansbee, said, "I used to hold the chicken while my mother cut its head off. That's how we got chicken every Sunday."
Others, like Alice Brandon, of New Alexandria, Ohio, said, "That is so gross. I think that is so gross. I don't know where the parents were, but that it totally gross." Alice thinks THIS is gross--wait until she and her 15-year-old boyfriend have that first child next summer.

**I guess I'm a mass murderer as it pertains to poultry.....when I was a kid we raised our own chickens (and we have started back doing so in the last year)....and when we got a healthy overstock of them we thinned the flock and put chicken in the freezers of three households. It was not uncommon to kill 30-50 chickens in one killing. My cousin and I would do the catching and my grandmother pulled their heads off and we delivered them to our mothers to render.......it was good eatin' too.

What are these whinners gonna do if TSHTF. I guess starve or eat tree bark or something. I geuss we know these boys will be OK. I was raised on a farm with pigs and chickens. Last i checked chickens were supposed to be food but they have to be killed first. You can just wait for them to die of old age or commit suicide but your gonna be hungry in the meen time. ;D

Throwen them in the pot live is OK for crabs and crawfish but I bet a chicken would put up a fuss. ;D

I'm sure its more humane using a knife or a hatchet, but when I was a kid, we would grab them by their heads and sling the body hard enough to release the head from the body, and of course watch the body run around for a little bit, bet they would have loved that. Not a recommended practice on Geese or Turkey.

I go to that high school and I'm so glad I'm graduating Thursday. It's a disgrace to know that we make national news because of 2 idiots that wanted to kill a chicken and have a cookout in school. I know the senior and he is just a retard. He's been suspended at least 4 times the last semester. He doesn't learn, and that's why he's not walking at graduation because he was immediately expelled.

First welcome aboard and hope you stay on. Thanks for posting. I think a lot, if not all, of the vitriol you hear on this thread comes from a real frustration with a PC mindset. Its not this one incident per say. Its the "zero tolerance" policies, the speech police, the obesity police and all the rest of it. You have no idea how much freer a place HS was in the '80s when I went there, and more so the further back you go. Crime and drug problems were worse, but the level of physical and ieological control was much lighter. Now when things are safer, there is a bunker mentality at too many schools that frustrates us. Congrats on your graduation.
