As the tornadoes and other crap roll through the midwest I know that we have some members close to the paths. Is everyone safe and sound with roofs still overhead?
-
Made it through ok here.
We had a tornado watch and reportedly some sightings in the four SW counties of Ohio. The watch lasted several hours and was filled with continuous severe thunderstorms.
There was only light damage in my area, with some broken tree limbs, but 89,000 folks were left without power....a very minor event compared to what the Joplin folks experienced.
No matter how advanced our technology becomes; no matter what "walls" we erect to protect us from Nature, the World is still a snarling beast capable of incredible destruction and devastation.
-
Liable to be SOME time before we hear from them if affected. Can't think of anyone on here from KS off the top of my head...
A company I used to work for had a branch in Joplin. They were all really good people. Shame to see this happen.

Marshal, and M'ette live in Kansas.

UGH OH! :(
We all accept our risks I guess. Directly 1 mile East of me is a sign on the beach saying "Hurricane Zone". :-\
WORTH IT. ;)

True enough, We get Blizzards, and Ice storms up here, but at least they are relatively quiet. ;D

Marshal, and M'ette live in Kansas.
We have family around the M's, and haven't heard of much there. Son-In-Law is near Oklahoma City on work this month, and it was a heart stopping moment when the phone rang last night and the daughter's ID came up. At that point she had heard nothing, and was expecting a call later.
I was on the phone with businesses that I deal with in both Joplin and Minneapolis on Monday morning. They all were spared, but the folks in Joplin were running their butts off, and are bracing for a nasty couple of weeks.
-
Made it thru last night. We had a tornado on the ground west of us and 2 wall clouds with rotation to the east, no serious damage.
Hope everyone else is alright.

Rastus is in OK too.

Stay safe all you guys and gals!

Rastus is in OK too.
He works a butt load of hours and may not get on till the Weekend.
-
Best of luck to all affected, my prayers are with you and your families.
Speaking of roll call, (not that they would do any good) but is BHO or Biden present to observe the devastation and voice their support and concern? If a Republican was in the Oval Office there would be hell to pay if they were not there.

I too hope everyone still has their homes and loved ones. It's going to be a fustercluck for a while.
Something to think about in disaster planning, what if the stash of goodies, food, H2O, guns, etc., in your home went away WITH your home?
I'm thinking a water purifier in the vehicle may be worth it's weight in gold.
A strong box/safe that can secure a carbine or extra pistol and loaded mags in the vehicle may be something to add if possible.
(to prevent having to load and unload the vehicle every time in and out)

All we have in my area is some flooding. Nothing too bad but it's supposed to rain all week.
-
Flooding in our area. Expected to get worse as we are getting a lot of rain, and snowpacks are at 227% of normal with peak runoff expected somewhere around the first of July. They are dumping the reservoirs as fast as they can, but most are still spilling over. Nebraska is screaming at us for sending too much water, but we can't hold any more back.
On the plus side, it's looking to be the best year EVER for kayaking and rafting. ;D ;D ;D
-
Talked to M'ette this morning. They're fine. She told me it would take more than a tornado to get her. I told her I was more worried about Marshal and Mama Jo.
I can't tell you what she said after that. ;D
Still waiting to hear from the kids in Newton and Andover, though. :(
-
Just heard from the twin girl in Andover. Everything is fine with her AND her sister in Newton. It was northeast of them.
I guess I can let out my held breath now.

I'll probably jinks us but ... we have had storms and such all around us but have managed to dodge most of the bad stuff. Did loose a tree to a wind storm a while back but luckily it fell away from the only occupied dwelling it could have hit! Only damaged neighbor's fence and pool cover.
Richard
PS: Glad to hear everyone appears to be OK.

Got word from daughter this afternoon, and s-i-l ran when they heard it coming. They got far enough north to avoid the storm, but seven people were killed in Guthrie. At 9:30 last night they didn't have power, so had no A/C and no power to run computers to work on (they need to be done with their projects by the 1st, and if they finish early they go home early). They drove north again and found a hotel in the next town so they could work.
Bottom line is that he is safe, but Guthrie, OK is a mess!
-
Rastus is in OK too.
I looked at the reports on yesterday, and everything I can find (doesn't mean I didn't miss something) shows there were five tornadoes and they were all in OK City. Doesn't mean that there wasn't other damage in Rastus' neighborhood, but it at least looks promising.
Today it is heavy in Kansas, so keep praying for the M's and others in that area as we enter the high storm periods this evening ... or watch our way through the end of the day storms since they get them anytime of day down there.

I have a friend that lives in Sadalia, MO. Keep a good thought for he and his family.....
-
We are getting storm now. Nothing bad in town, but some down trees and power lines around us. We had pea size hail, heavy rain, and winds. Hopefully most has passed now.
