Ah, Chicago....... Apparently teens have taken to muggings on the North side based on text messages. Tourists have been assaulted and robbed of Ipods and Iphones by teens looking for trouble. Mayor Rahm is not amused. On the one hand I am appalled by this. On the other, I pity the fools. Do they not understand exactly what Rahm is prepared to do to a 17 year old punk who damages the city's convention business? Hell, it'll make Daley's police riot at the '68 Democratic convention look like a strongly worded debate. Say what you want about Emmanuel, he and Rudy were separated at birth when it comes to the taking shit from no one category. What gets me is that if Chicago had a reasonable CCW policy none of this would have happened. You would have had a few dead thugs and the problem would have been solved. As it is....just police excesses and and civilians unable to take care of business themselves. Utter BS, but it is kind of amusing to watch from a distance. Criminal thugs versus governmental thugs all to solve a problem the 2A could have prevented. ::)

From the Second City Cop blog:
Travel Advisory
The American Society of Clinical Oncology has to be having second thoughts about their ten-year deal to come to McCormick Place.
PAWS canceled its upcoming weekend event due to "safety concerns from unpredictable crowds and weather conditions" although the City claims PAWS applied for a permit too late. We've never seen a late permit that couldn't be greased through in this town though - witness all the building permits pulled months, even years later (with a fine attached) for all sorts of projects.
Now, the Illinois State Rifle Association has issued a "travel advisory" for any members headed to Chicago:
•The ISRA is warning its members to think twice about selecting Chicago as a vacation destination this summer. This warning was issued in response to a recent dramatic upswing in violent crime in the windy city. Most notably is a spate of so-called “flash mob” attacks where as many as two dozen young men ambush and savagely beat their victims before robbing them of their valuables. One recent flash mob victim was a 68 year-old man.
The bulk of the flash mob attacks have taken place on Chicago’s near north side and Gold Coast areas to include North Avenue Beach and the Magnificent Mile. The attack locations are within the general vicinity of tourist attractions including Navy Pier, Lincoln Park Zoo, and Millennium Park.
We're afraid this is going to get worse before it gets any better. Much worse.

I'm glad you referenced the Second Cit Cop blog. I've been reading that blog for some time and the situation in Chicago is dire. This gets very little press in the MSM. We moved from IL to KY 20+ years ago. No plans to move back. Even hate to visit.

Love SCC too. I go there right after Michael's blog and Farmer Frank's. :)
