There are a couple of things that I think would be helpful for a bed side tactical rifle to be able to add to the rails beyond a light and/or laser.
1. a cellphone holster with quick release clips.
2. a level 3 Serpa type holster for pistol
a. could use the pistol as a fore arm grip
b. if in dead sleep all emergency gear in one place if have to get up

Might slip a couple LONG wire ties through the hand guard vents as well, handy for restrain BG while you call Police.
Try using "Super glue" to attach cell phone and pistol holsters to hand guard or stock.

I guess I should have said attaching it to the rail. If I had the know how I'd do it myself.

Becarefull with that restraining the bad guy. Aside from the tactical problems of restraint with a long gun or even making contact with a bad guy that is still breathing without back up. Your local laws might identify only law enforcement as authorized to restrain anybody in your jursidiction. In fact depending on where you live you can be charged with assault and battery for that restraint. Again depending on your local laws, the possiblity exsists that not only does the bast**d get off but can then turn around and sue you for violating his rights and the assault. If you have never contacted a good local attorney, I would make the suggesttion to do so and make sure you know your rights/the law where you live. Believe me it opened my eyes!!
And as for usefull suggestions for the rifle, a baseball bat holder attached to one of the rails. if you run out of ammo you can still crack the SOB upside his head. Also works as a large handle if your clumsy when you wake up!!

What about extra's ? An extra flashlight for example. What if you wake up in darkness and knock you flash light over where you can't find it ..or what if the bulb is jared loose where it won't come on?

Springfield Armory has a flashlight attachment obstensibly for the XD, I've already have it on as a back up.

Yeah that's a good idea. I have a Glock lights for each of my Glocks (except for the G27), in addition to Surefire and other various flashlight/tatical lights. You never know when one or all of them might come in handy. The Glock lights fit perfectly onto Glocks with rails, as they should. They are super bright too. They light coyotes up real quick in the dark.

HAWKFISH do you know how bright those G-lights are?
