Title: Braille help needed.
Post by: TAB on June 09, 2011, 03:02:27 AM
I'm looking for reasonable pricesoftware that will take a word file and convert it to braille.

So far the cheapest I've found is $595.50   :o

any help?

Okay, do I sound like an idiot when I say that seems like that's  the least of you problems? Because unless you have a printer that will produce durable raised dots you might as well be typing in Farsi, and somehow I doubt that sort of printer and paper is cheap either. If I'm wrong I'll stand corrected.

Maybe the $600 includes the printer?

and to help this thread drift.......if you're using Word, "insert" "symbols" and chose some of the Farsi characters.   Word will actually insert them right to left.  ﭫﭭﭮ

no need for a printer, I will be sending the files to said blind person directly.  They have one of those keyboard with the pins on it.

you are right a braille printer starts at about $1500 and go WAY up.  The ones that do 30 "letters" a  second are 4k, 60 is about 7k.  The paper is actually pretty cheap at 400 sheets for about $20.  Its very thick stuff.

Uh could you give me a link for that paper?   I'm still on my Quixotic quest for target paper.

WOW.  Found my nirvana.   11x11" 100# paper for <$0.05 a sheet free shipping!    Thanks TAB.

Of course the free shipping is in part because they think this has something to do with seeing disability.   Okay I feel guilty.....for a few seconds.
