Title: Small Request
Post by: jaybet on June 14, 2011, 05:40:31 AM
If you can find a little space in your long list it would be great if you could say a little prayer for my sweetie who is once again waging the battle to drop tobacco. She really needs to beat it this time. Thanks.

You got it, Jay.

**My dad smoked for 40 years before quitting (after heart surgery) and I watched him struggle several times over the years trying to quit. It is tough......prayers going out.

Will do, Jay.

Like Peg, my Dad managed to quit - the day before he went into the hospital to have a lung removed for lung cancer. It is hard to do, but she will get it done.

Quitting is easy...staying quit is hard.  I was still having occasional cravings 2 years after I quit.

She's on the list.   :D

I quit again on the 23rd of last month. Maybe both of us can beat it this time. I had quit for 3 years and picked it back up 7 months ago.

Five years this August Jay!  Circumstances were different for me but it can be done and she'll feel so much better afterward!

Prayers are sent!

I've read that giving up nicotine is tougher than kicking heroin.  However, I'm confident that with your love and support, and the prayerful support of our little "family", she'll make it.

Consider her added to the list.

Done and good luck to her. Tough stuff.

My wife quit when we got married. Cold turkey. She finished her pack and never bought anymore. I wish I could bottle whatever resolve she had. She just mentioned yesterday, after talking to a smoker, that she never really knew what she had smelled like when she smoked and that she was surprised no one ever said something.

Even after debilitating surgery to remove smoking-related bladder cancer, her father still can't quit and I think he's just given up now.

Will do!

Need a hint?  Pregnancy worked for daughter-in-law to get it done.  How does that work for you  ;)

Quitting smoking is got to be one of the hardest things to do.

Prayers and wishes sent.

Find out what sort of candy she likes and buy tons of it.

Maybe a little psychology, Jay?

Find something YOU should be quitting and set up a partnership of mutual support in quitting.

Then you have weak moments where she can support you with pep talks about how you can be strong and get it done.

She will be giving herself the same pep talk and it will already be coming from within.

Then you can thank her each time for her strength and support and good example.

Of course, she might cuss at you for being weak when she needed you to be strong.

Take care.

Well, we sortof did that. She smokes, I'm fat. I'm trying to watch what I eat and lose weight, but you HAVE to eat...you don't HAVE to smoke...so it's a bit of a delicate negotiation. She's trying really hard and doing very well, and I'm being supportive and trying to lose some weight. We'll see.

You sir are in a win/win situation!

You need exercise and she need to occupy her free time and the craving to have something in her hand and mouth ...  ;)
