Title: An interesting lottery
Post by: fightingquaker13 on June 18, 2011, 05:13:20 AM
I did something today I rarely do, and that is buy a lottery ticket. As one of my profs said "Lotto is a tax on those who are bad at math". But what if we made it interesting? Not one number drawn, but two. One gets you millions, the second, they just shoot you. Here's the question. In this celebrity "real wives of", or "say yes to the dress", or "Survivor" culture, how many folks do you think would sign up? Odds are nothing will happen. On the other hand, someone gets rich, someone gets shot. How many folks do you think would sign up to play, assuming it were legal?
FQ13 who is really afraid of the responses.

If the loser would be executed on TV with the full weekly episode focused on them, you couldn't print tickets fast enough.

I think there would be a select few that would try it. There are some hard core risk takers out there. In combat the thrill of cheating death and the rush get to some people. It is like a drug and they want more.

Blood Sports have always been popular, I'm sure it would draw a crowd.

+1

And on that note, it would be a boon to the economy.
*I've said for years that pay-per-view executions of those set to leave death-row would be a cash-cow also.

100% what I thought.  Seems like more and more people are willing to do more and dumber things just for attention every day.   ::)

(I listened to the police scanner for an hour or so yesterday...  All the proof you could ever need is on there!)   ;)

Instead of the other number getting the "winner" executed, instead have it put them in a "fight for your life" situation against great odds.

Remember the movie Predator?

I had a thought when I watched it.    If that type of being was known to show up every so often, how many folks would go in to face it one on one?

My thoughts were that there would be enough to fill the available slots every time......and maybe that is what enabled the human race to claw it's way to the top of the food chain even though they have no claws.

I think the lottery I proposed would have a similar draw.

You aren't wrong. Put say a million bucks on the table and you'll find people willing to take a shot. Its the folks who would pay to watch that I worry about. Seriously, desperate people willing to risk death for millions? That's a dime a dozen. "Normal" guy willing to click pay per view to watch it? Him, I want to stay far away from.

 Count me with Solus.

For example,"The lucky winner" gets on an airplane, the pilot takes it up to 10,000 feet, tells him ""you either walk away with a million $ or you die", then bails out.   ;D

That one works for me....I've got a pilot license.

And about the Predator thoughts.....I'd bet there would be those who would go to face the thing just for the challenge, no cash reward involved.   Particularly a being that was coming to Earth for the sport of hunting humans.

Of course, the upside to being in a Predator type situation is that you've got a fifty fifty shot at being elected governor of a major state if you survive. ;D

HI;

Just a thought !  Why not use people on Death Row ?  They have nothing to loose and a chance at lif in prison or the eventual needle or "old sparky". They certainly would not be hesitant to go all out.

Good, but been done in the movies way to many times now.

Like the Preditor idea!  Follow them through a few weeks of training before the game so you get to know the character of the players.  Makes it more interesting.  And forget the Million the winner got.  Just imagin the kind of $$$ they'd be betting on the game in vegas!!!  For that matter, have online betting durring the show!

I buy about 3 lottery tickets a year (figure that way my odds are as good as anybody's).  But would be happy to put some cash down on people hunting each other!   ;D
