Title: NBC apologizes for omitting ‘under God’ from pledge

NBC apologizes for omitting ‘under God’ from pledge before U.S. Open

In case it's been awhile since you said the pledge in elementary school, the first version left out the words "under God" and "indivisible." The second went even further, knocking out "one nation" as well.

The outcry on Twitter was immediate and almost universally negative. Perhaps this style was an artistic choice on the part of the segment producer, interweaving the pledge with military and golf-related sound bites, but the decision to leave out "under God" is a curious one at best, and a highly controversial one, without doubt.

Later in the telecast, host Dan Hicks read the following statement during coverage: "It was our intent to begin our coverage of this U.S. Open championship with a feature that captured the patriotism of our national championship being here in our nation's capital for the third time. Regrettably, a portion of the pledge of allegiance that was in that feature was edited out. It was not done to upset anyone and we'd like to apologize to those of you who were offended by it."

Translation: "Not that we screwed up and we apologize for the screwup. But if any of you lame-ass wankers in flyover country give a rat's ass about this, well, golly I guess we'll apologize that you're pissed off"

I am so sick of the a$$holes in the media, I am about to suggest we make things like this a capital offense - the Roman way. That is, we turn the ones who did this into enemies of the US people, and anyone who does harm to them will suffer no punishment. In fact, the Romans even made it a citizen's duty to do harm to enemies of the people.

Apologize, apologize, apologize:  This BS is getting old!

The ideal that it is easier to ask forgiveness than to get permission, or in many cases do it right, is not an acceptable way to live your life or act!

Every day some politician, business, organization, husband or wife is publicly begging forgiveness for something that they didn't mean to do, accidentally did, forgot to do, or just plain screwed up.  Hey folks, man up and admit you did something because you beliefs and intentions don't mesh with ours.  Your hollow meaningless apologies are meaningless!

Umm, TW and  Path, not to spoil your very colorful rants or anything, but......
You do realize that the pledge was written by a socialist who was also a Baptist minster and did NOT include the words "Under God" right? That was added in the fifties, during the Red Scares. 'nuff said.  ::)
FQ13 who will wait for a real issue to get aggravated about.

Hey, Tool, we get it. And the Pledge is written and known by most of us. And it wasn't just the under God part:

Not only can't you spell, apparently you are reading-challenged as well!

Let me net it out for you - On top of the other issues and "slip-ups" and intentional slights and violations we have been forced to suffer over the years, this is just another straw on the camel's back.

Path, you have a keen eye for the very obvious.

Every day we are seeing a diminution of the importance of God, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and even liberty itself.

We who are conservative and traditional are reviled and ridiculed in the press for our limited views and inability to understand the great wisdom of the left.

The lame stream media no longer reflects the average American viewpoint but instead has become a voice for the progressives and their pap and nonsense.  (I am personally resentful that the very word progressive has appropriated by these leftist a$$hats for there is nothing progressive about the repressive left.)

It is time for freedom-loving Americans to take a stand and call out those who would re-write the Constitution;  those who would re-make us into a socialist state;  those who believe the individual is incapable of making decisions for himself; those who denigrate the godly and amplify evil.

We have, as a nation, slipped so far to the left that someone like JFK could easily be redefinedby today's standards  as a relatively conservative Republican.  When FOX News is thought of as an ultra-right-wing propoganda machine we have slipped so far to the left that we are no longer on the chart.

It's time for all freedom-loving Americans to raise a strong voice against those who would steal our liberty.  Write emails, send letters, stand up at town hall meetings, and most importantly, vote with your ballot and with your dollars for those politicians and merchants who are for liberty.

It's time to proclaim, "I'm mad as hell and I won't take it anymore." /rant off

Well put CR....and by all means, sir, continue the rant against what was once a veiled, but has transformed into overt, desensitization of the American masses.

Not "nuff said".
The current wording was established with the passage of a law, duly signed by the President. Technically leaving out the words "Under God", or any other segment, is a violation of a Federal law.

The very fact that this subject comes up shows that it was not a "red scare". It was an awakening to the fact our country was being infiltrated by the enemies of our principals with the goal of subverting it from within.
