My little girl is having her appendix removed as we speak.
This is the big kick in the b#@ls I didn't need right now. What else can go wrong? Oh, that's right; no job and no insurance.
People will say this is a perfect example of why we need socialized medicine, but I say I would rather spend my last dime to make sure she gets the best care. I don't want to shell out more in taxes to make sure everyone gets shitty care.

That appendix is a sneaky sumbitch. Mine blew up on me within 24 hours of starting to feel bad. We're praying for her...it's usually an uncomplicated surgery. TALK to all of the doctors and the hospital involved. Lots of times they can make some concessions for the uninsured.
-
Good luck.

Prayers for your daughter and you!
Hang in there BAC a new door will open for you!

You're in our thoughts BAC....hang in there and work with the Hospital. They've always worked with me over the years.
God Bless your little girl...

Done!
Take care of her first, and then like others have said - Tell them your situation and that you are willing to pay what you can. You'll be surprised the pricing and terms you will get!
If we all kept your attitude healthcare would be personal and affordable.

Done, BAC
Hang in there.

What they all said.

Most states have some sort of coverage for the uninsured that will take care of a large portion of the bill.
-
Prayer and well wishes, BAC.
Most hospitals will work with you if you can talk to the right person.

I'm a little late on this, but the prayer went up anyhow. By now, I expect surgery's over and done and she is feeling a little bit of discomfort. Stay strong for her and let her know she mobilized a squad of prayer warriors. All she has to do right now is be lazy and be well.

Thank you all for the kind words and prayers. Amanda's doing remarkably well. The surgery went well. She's got to sit in the hospital bed for 5 days now. That's going to be the challenge. I'm bringing lots of books and her phone to her tomorrow. That kid can text!
As far as paying the bill goes, the hospital has been very forthcoming in wanting to work with us on payment options. I salute them for that. I'm not worried...she's going to be OK and that is all that matters. We'll get the bill payed.
I also salute the kind members of DRTV. The best bunch of friends I've never met!

Thanks for the update.

Great news, BAC! :D
My mother always told me to never worry about money. She didn't mean not to DO anything about it, just not worry.
She said in her life, it has always had a way of getting worked out. She said when something came and she would wonder where the money for it would come from, something else always happened to bring it.
Seems her advice is good.
I just wish things would bring it much more often ;D
Take care.
