SEATTLE (AP) — A Seattle police spokesman says the department is embarrassed after officers left a police rifle unattended on a patrol car outside a busy downtown area. Spokesman Sgt. Sean Whitcomb says the department has launched an investigation.
Whitcomb says two people spotted the rifle on the parked car. One flagged down bicycle officers to alert them. The other followed the cruiser as it drove through downtown Seattle and tracked down the driver after the car parked.
The alternative weekly The Stranger first reported the incident, posting a picture that shows the rifle sitting on top of the trunk.
Whitcomb says such rifles are assigned only to officers who have additional training. They're usually kept in the trunk or between the driver and passenger seats

With the patrol car's license number and unit number both clearly visible in the pic, this SHOULD be the shortest investigation in the history of law enforcement. Unless, of course, what they're investigating is how to cover their a$$es.
While I will admit to laying my keys, watch, cell phone or glasses somewhere and forgetting to pick them up, I have never mislaid an AR.
Musta been close to closing time at the doughnut shop.

Now where the heck did I park my tank?
-
Brilliant, and were the incompetent schmucks, RIGHT ???
-
Come on guys, they had extra training to know how to keep the rifle on the trunk while they drove around the city.
Pecos

you know what, thats grounds for firing right there on the spot.
I had a cousin that was a "g man" The one thing he always talked about his job was:
"If I lost my gun, I lost my job."
Why or when that changed I don't know, but its a damn good policy.

Plain dumb. >:(
-
The " finders keepers" rule applies here. ;)
-
Maybe it's a local version of "Fast & furious."

The officer made a serious mistake. They said on CNN that the squad car went to a local Starbucks. I am sure this officer is going to get suspended, but he should not lose his job. People make mistakes. I am sure he feels like a dumbass cause it is all over the news.

No don't fire him. Then he gets unemployment. Make his job so miserable that he quits!
Starting with promotion to Dumb Ass First Class.

Crap like that gets people killed. What if someone picked it up and another officer see's this as a threat?

Ok I'm adding something to my platform when I run for the POTUS...
Its gun control, but I bet all of you are going to like it...
Here is what I purpose:
if a LEO loses or misplaces thier weapon, its a federal felony with a min of 10k fine and 1 year in jail.
If its a gun/weapon/ammo that the general public can not own in that juristiction. min 5 years in jail 25k fine.
if its a federally controled item, 10 years in jail 100k fine.
If a LEA/LEO trys to cover up or fails to report this happening 25 years in jail and the LEA loses all federal funding for 1 year.
-
And in the case documented, the guy will likely get something like a 2 week suspension... PAID! ::)
-
should be fired, thats the reason for maing it a federal felony, that way they can not be a LEO.( on the plus side they won't be able to own a gun too.)
I would be shocked if he even gets 2 weeks, I'm guessing more like 2 days and has to go thru some more training...

Hate to nit pick, but isn't it either "Here is" my AR or "Here's" my AR? ;D

Sure does seem ironic "we the people" can't be trusted to keep those evil black rifles,....they are dangerous just left around like that...
:P

Yep, need to know how to clean both the trunk AND the AR so the velcro sticks! ;D

What would be the legal jeapordy a citizen would find themselves in if they were legal owners of a NFA item and did the same thing as the offending officer?
Just sayin'.....
-
If one of us did that we would be arrested and have our 2nd Ammendment rights shitcanned! Fire him and put him in the slammer!!!!!
JMHOFWIW
